Optimism rules – of course he’ll stay!!

Its good being an optimist, I rarely expect any thing terrible to happen in my life – to me, to the people I love, to the world around me. I wake up each morning hoping the sky will be blue and the sun will shine. Every now and then theres a conspiracy that unfolds to unnerve me and make me take off my rose-coloured spectacles and peer properly at whats going on around me.

Yesterday I felt it would be very nice if Arsene Wenger came out and said what he had in his mind about all this transfer talk involving Real Madrid and himself – I didn’t expect him to but I felt in would be the honourable thing to do. The assumption is that with lots of money Arsene Wenger would be able to win the much desired Champions League trophy with Real Madrid. What team do we know that have lots of money and ply their trade not too far from us? Chelsea. Were Chelsea in the semi-finals of the Champions League? Yes they were. Are they in the Final? No, they aren’t.  The money is no guarantee and I believe that Arsene Wenger firmly believes that.

Whatever Real Madrid offer him it can’t compare to the history and the legacy he has created at Arsenal. He loves that as much as he loves his vision of football that we Arsenal supporters have been so so lucky to be able to call our own for the past thirteen years.

I have questioned plenty of his decisions this season but I can’t question his desire to build a successful Arsenal team that will go on to win silverware for many years to come. He loves Arsenal as much as I do and thats very important to me.

Not much to debate there but the hacks are giving us plenty of rubbish to chew over so I’m certain we won’t be running out of things to say.

    Superb upbeat post peaches,

Sorry if I’d pre-empted your choice of topics with some comments at the end of the previous post.

We need to get the Stoke gane out of the way before we really begin to go berserk dreaming of the fabulous new players we will be signing 😉

Loooks like Hull are going to be lucky and manu will be fielding an Arsenal Carling Cup side against them 😦

  2. peachesgooner says:

You all know how I love The Times newspaper and its at times like this that their passion for the type of football Arsene has brought to not just us but to the world is at its most lyrical.

This is quite a long article but well worth a read IMO

  3. peachesgooner says:

Hi rasp – let me know if theres anything glaringly wrong in the post, I didn’t want to interupt you 😉

Good to see that in times of adversity, music holds us together. How did you know that about that song and Quincy Jones – amazing 😆

    Morning kelsey. rico and raddy

  4. Irishgunner says:

Morning – I was up but out and about, just in case y’all think I’m lazy 😀

So the boss is definitely staying?

  5. Irishgunner says:

😆 Rasputin I’ve so much to tell him, last night on Championship manager on my xbox I bought David Villa for £35million – now go do that Arsene 😉

  6. Rasputin says:

Morning Irish… yes, good news Le Boss is staying…. we can all resume telling him how to do his job now 😛

  7. peachesgooner says:

Morning Irish……read the link…..you’ll fall in love with the guy that wrote it guaranteed 🙂

  8. Irishgunner says:

I have it up must go read it and I’ll be back

  9. rico01 says:

    Morning Irish

Boro and Newcastle have made it clear that they will seek advice about taking Manure to court if they field a weakened side against Hull –

Andrew Symonds not selected for the Ashes tour

    Our boss is staying…

Three bits of bloomin good news on a day when the sky is very blue 🙂

  10. Irishgunner says:

Good piece – I await for the Daily Mail to write their ode 😉

  11. Irishgunner says:

    Morning Rico

I think Boro and Newcastle and I right but only cos it has the possibility of United going to court 🙂

  12. Rasputin says:

I’ve just seen your comment re the chavs flower show – sorry I didn’t respond earlier. It was the greatest display of bad hats and blue rinse I have ever seen 😉

  13. Irishgunner says:

Were Arsenal fans planning a march to keep AW??? So reports the meeja.

I want to march, I’ve not been on a protest march for 5 years, they are great fun.

  14. peachesgooner says:

rasp – the idea was to look at the plants and planting and fabulous garden design 😉

  15. rico01 says:

Irish – spot on, and a ‘huge’ fine could be given to them – and fergie has had a strop in an i/v with sky

    Come on Barca 🙂

  16. Irishgunner says:

    A strop like this Rico?

  17. rico01 says:

    Irish – 😛

He used the word ‘Christ’ and had a pop at the reporter for not listening 😉

The pressure is getting to him 🙄

  18. peachesgooner says:

‘huge’ fine as in 10 points deducted from the start of next season…….no point in it being a monetary fine IMO

  19. Irishgunner says:

But its United they can’t possibly be punished tsk tsk

  20. peachesgooner says:

    Come on Everton 😛

  21. Irishgunner says:

This is Ferguson’s reaction to anything happening that he objects to

  22. Rasputin says:

Ha ha ha….. Irish… you’ve made my day. Is there a clip of the hisy fit with Sky?

  23. Irishgunner says:

There probably is Rasp – I’ll see if I can find it. Did you see the time he lost it after missing his bus?

  24. rico01 says:

Irish – that bus one is so funny 😛

  25. Irishgunner says:

    This one?

  26. Irishgunner says:

I hate missing the bus too Rico 😆 I love the baby one, sums Ferguson up

  27. peachesgooner says:

    Irish – thats hilarious 😛 😛 😛

  28. Rasputin says:

    😆 … priceless…. 😛

Compare and contrast in terms of dignity and composure

SAF, Phil Brown versus AW, Fabio Copello and Guus Hiddink

It’s no wonder we’re not treated with slight disdain on the continent

I’m off down to the bank – catch up in an hour or so … I don’t wan’t to go, its too much fun on here 😦

  29. Irishgunner says:

Did ye see the gif pictures of Ballack and Overno??(the ref)

I don’t want to fill your blog up with videos though, might slow it down

  30. Rasputin says:

Oops – that should have read “It’s no wonder we are treated with slight disdain on the continent” – we’re not much good at English either! 😉

  31. peachesgooner says:

My son just pointed out the video on that run of Alonso and Gerrard – its so funny – rico you’ll love it 🙂

  32. Irishgunner says:

  33. rico01 says:

peaches – i havent seen it

  34. peachesgooner says:

rico – if you go back to the saf video of the swearing – let it finish and then scroll through the others at the bottom and there is one with Alonso and Gerrard

  35. Irishgunner says:

Have ye guys seen the one of Dunphy and Giles sticking up for AW and telling Souness “he doesn’t know what he’s talking about”?

  36. rico01 says:

    thanks peaches, i will

  37. Irishgunner says:

no more videos I promise 🙂

  38. Rasputin says:

Just watched your link Irish …. they talk more sense over there than on UK TV. We want to be considered as ‘in the top four’ of the prem but we aren’t in the top 16 when it comes to expenditure on players.

There is a saying that if you want a job done, give it to a busy man…. so it is unsurprising that certain elements thought they’d saddle AW with taking the flak for not buying players and pretended that they were happy to supply the money if he wanted it.

  39. Irishgunner says:

Best snippets from that link are:

Bill: Can I make an assumption he has £30million.
    Giles: No Bill!

Souness: And who have you ever managed?
Dunphy: I’ve not managed anywhere but I’ve managed to stay alive for sixty-three and a half years baby 😆

I watched an England game a while back on ITV and jeez I wanted to shoot myself “We underestimated Kazasthan” 🙄 give me a break

  40. Rasputin says:

Souness is a bit of a plank 😉

From Sky Sports (always reliably unreliable 😉 )_

“Emmanuel Adebayor’s agent is yet to be contacted by either Milan or Inter regarding a move for his client but admits that he is planning talks with Arsene Wenger at the end of the season.

Adebayor’s future looks increasingly likely to lie away from Arsenal as his stock among the club’s supporters continues to plummet.”

It seems that if Ade goes, the blame is going to be placed squarely on the shoulders of a certain faction amongst the supporters ……. not exactly true is it? 🙄

  41. Irishgunner says:

    A bit of a plank??? 😆

Adebayor has one person alone to blame and that would be himself.

Just saw on Arsenal.com that Eduardo had “revision surgery” on his ankle today but its routine apparently and he should be back for preseason.

  42. Rasputin says:

Yes, I’m quite pleased he’s not going to be playing for Croatia.

There should be some solid rules in place when it comes to releasing players. For the likes of manu and pool, it should be that if a player is ‘injured and unfit’ for international duty they cannot play for their club within 7 days of the game in question. We lost Theo for 3 months with that shoulder injury when manu players weren’t released but played at the weekend.

  43. Irishgunner says:

I think Bilic too was wrong in keeping Eduardo on for the full 90 against Andorra. They were 2-0 and playing Andorra, ANDORRA!!! Very little fear of them getting back into a game and he came back injured from that.

United and Pool will keep getting away with it me thinks, although Capello is a tough task master.

  44. Rasputin says:

I like Capello. I don’t think he’s impressed by reputation and picks players on form. He has the most understated goal celebration that makes him cool in my book.

Maybe we overestimated Kazakhstan 😉 – they’re nearly as good as Andorra…

  45. peachesgooner says:

Sympathy needed, was in the middle of writing a long email – the phone rang – my session expired on AOL – come back to the screen and I can’t get back into the email and I hadn’t saved it into drafts aaarrrggghhhh

  46. Rasputin says:

Will you never learn peaches? You’re no good at chess if you can’t play drafts 😆

  47. Irishgunner says:

Peaches, oh dear 😦 I hate when that happens

Rasp – Capello is a top manager although I think personally Trapattoni is better 😉

  48. Rasputin says:

OK Irish, arrange a game between England and The R of I and we’ll see 😀

  49. peachesgooner says:

Sorry guys, I have to go and do some stuff outside, catch up later 🙂

  50. Rasputin says:

I’m off for a spot of late lunch… catch up later…

  51. Irishgunner says:

I think after last time we’ll hold it in England 😉

    Catch ye later

  52. Rasputin says:

Irish, before I go, can I humbly apologise to the people of Ireland for the disgraceful behaviour of the England fans ….. I reckon they were all from chavski… 😦

I think we were taught a lesson in manners by the way the rugby supporters behaved at Croke Park

  53. rico01 says:

    Can I join you 😉

  54. Irishgunner says:

No need to apologise for the actions of others Rasputin but I do know that the FAI are or at least were weary of inviting England over again. It had been touted that when Lansdowne reopens that it would be Ireland vs England but its going to be Argentina I believe now.

Anyways, its only cos we were winning 😀

Rugby and football are a different kettle of fish too.

  55. Irishgunner says:

    Hi Rico

  56. rico01 says:

Rasp – did you see Chris Lewis has been jailed for drug smuggling – what an idiot he has been….

  57. rico01 says:

Hi Irish – that will teach me to F5 before I type 😉

  58. rico01 says:

Rasp – forgot to add, jailed for thirteen years!!!

  59. Irishgunner says:

I saw that about Chris Lewis but have no idea about cricket, is he any good?

  60. rico01 says:

Irish – he was in the 90’s, good seam bowler who played over fifty tests for England

  61. rico01 says:

Actually, got that wrong, he played more one day matches than tests, 50 odd one day matches but less tests i think

  62. Irishgunner says:

Agh Okay, really I know zilch about cricket at all at all, its one sport I can’t get into

  63. kelsey says:

    Hello again.
These are my priorities as the season draws to an end.

Consider the captaincy IMO give it to Arshavin and let Fabregas get on with his game, though I know some feel making Cesc captain was a loyalty bonus by AW.

Give Gallas at least a one year extension.

Pin RVP down to sign or leave.be more authoritive AW

Ensure if possible that both Eduardo and Rosicky are 100% fit for preseason.I don’t like the fact that Eduardo has had more surgery on his ankle.

Get the fitness team and medical department to fully analyse the cause of so many groin strains.

Buy 2 quality defenders holding and central.

Make allowances for the ANC which refers to the point immediately above.

Play Walcott in a more central role.

Ensure Traore comes back as left midfield/flank cover

Introduce Vela as from now and add Jack into the starting squad from next season.

    Then there is Adebayor 🙂

  64. Rasputin says:

Hi rico, yes I saw about Chris Lewis – what a shame, he was a good player although nevber top notch. Also that Symmonds has been dropped – good news for us, he’s a beast (like Cana in cricketing terms Irish)

Rico.. here’s a link to an article that mentions my village team and a game my son and I played in last year.

  65. Rasputin says:

kelsey – you forgot ‘engage the services of a specialist defensive coach’ and give Ramsey more time on the pitch 😉

  66. Irishgunner says:

And how do you solve a problem like Adebayor Kelsey?

  67. kelsey says:

and learn how to practice crossing and crossing and crossing again.

Point taken Rasp,Play Ramsey at home to start off with,to restore his confidence.

Irish,I have seen hundreds of footballers wear the famous red and white shirt, some were sublime others destinctly average, but Adebayor is a one off and i will never warm to him ever, the egoistic prune.
trouble is we may be left with him for next season,he is the only player to get into double fiqures this season in the PL in our team.Don’t mention the war 😉

  68. kelsey says:

By the way my first name is Jack not Adebayor Kelsey

  69. Irishgunner says:

    My bad,

And how do you solve a problem like Adebayor, Kelsey? 😉

  70. Irishgunner says:

BTW my nephew’s name is Jack too, great name

  71. rico01 says:

Rasp – please don’t tell me you were that bowler, I would have let him walk off – even if my son was the batsman 😉

  72. Rasputin says:

Interesting point about rugby and football supporters being a different kettle of fish Irish. It’s often trotted out that rugby is a thugs game played by gentlemen and vice verse. But cricket is a gentleman’s game (and ladies rico) where the players and the supporters are generally well behaved. In cricket and rugby, the players have to respect the umpire/ref. You never hear cricket fans singing ‘the umpire’s a w***er’ even when he gets decisions wrong. I think it is partly lack of respect for the ref, partly that football is more ‘working class’ (am I allowed to say that?) and mainly that there is something about the beautiful game that inspires greater passion and fervour.

  73. rico01 says:

I was think about you and your cricket earlier Rasp, I am looking forward so much to the 20/20 WC and the Ashes – Symmonds being left out is a big muck up by the Aussies – we looked sharp against the Windies in the last two tests and Gooner Jimmy is on top form – I think we will repeat 2005 ??

  74. Rasputin says:

No rico, just a middle order batsman, but I was really chuffed that someone had noticed and recorded the incident. Actually, none of us remonstrated with the captain afterwards – he’s just that kind of guy. We do get upset though if players from the opposiition accuse us of cheating because we know its not true. I walk if I snick it…. 😉

  75. Irishgunner says:

Rasputin – You are spot on there about football been the game of the working class and rugby been that of the middle and upper classes.

Actually in Ireland, Munster ( ) are seen as very much working class while Leinster are viewed as posh toffs.

Still I’m sure the actions and culture have a lot to do with where the games have originated.

  76. kelsey says:

Very good point rasputin.Sorry cricket is a game I don’t understand but even that is getting corrupt with that fraudster, rico, the texan geezer.

  77. rico01 says:

I was bad, and would win at any cost if I could 😉

    Only kidding…. :9:

  78. Rasputin says:

Were a batter, bowler or gifted all-rounder rico?

  79. kelsey says:

Surely cricket has changed more than any other sport, wasn’t it all public school upbringing some 30 years ago,but I suppose rugby was the same.I see rugby league as the working man’s rugby.

  80. rico01 says:

Rasp – I was a 6 onwards, once or twice when we were desperate I was put in up the order by our stupid, no nothing captain – sometimes it worked, but not often… 😛

  81. Rasputin says:

rico, re: the ashes; don’t you think we’ve got to place less importance on Freddie and concentrate on some of the newer players? If you make one player too talismanic and they don’t perform (or are injured) it seems to leech confidence out of the rest of the team.

I think the ashes is about 50/50 at the moment. The aussies are being underestimated and we do not really have a settled side.

  82. rico01 says:

Bit of an all rounder really Rasp, but bowling was my love and back then we always used to play limited overs, I longed to play a test match where I could bowl all day…..

My career got in the way really, and didnt play for a few years in my 20’s, otherwise i would have hunted down Mrs HHF and begged her to let me have a ‘white shirt’ proper

  83. Rasputin says:

rico – you often refer to me (affectionately I hope 😉 ) as an ‘old git’. Us old gits can still play cricket at ‘a level’ – is there such facility for ladies to play on past their forties?

  84. Rasputin says:

I prefer to face the quickies myself rico, can’t stand slow lefties who loop it up – I always end up mistimimg a shot and skying it….

Let us know when you want the conversation to revert back to footie folks 😛

  85. rico01 says:

Raps – I agree, we should be looking for the side without him, as sure as anything he will miss a test or two. If fit, I would say he has to play, but as a bowler batting 7/8/9 – he is an awesome slip catcher too.

Dont you think we looked pretty settled against the Windies? Not sure on Bressnan (spelling) but Jimmy, Onions, Swan looked good – But if we need a pace attack I would look back to Harmy or Sidebottom, and the latter can get a few runs sometimes –

Monty is the one I am not sure about, he has little variety in his bowling, and I think Swan will be first pick..

I hope we dont underestimate the Aussies, because their attitude wins them a lot of games, but I really believe that we have the quality to beat them here in the UK, as long as everyone is on form..

  86. rico01 says:

    Raps = Rasp 😳

  87. rico01 says:

Ha Ha Rasp – I did play when I was over 40, sadly it was my bones that stopped me carrying on – and I understand where you are coming from, you would wait all day for the ball to come out of the sky only to mistime your shot, my downfall was charging down the wicket and getting stumped 😦

Quickies anyday, but then a woman’s quick isnt as fast as as mans…. 😳 😉

  88. rico01 says:

Off for a little while – be back soon to talk cricket 🙂

  89. Rasputin says:

Agree about Onions and Swan rico. Not so sure about Harmy, Jimmy is looking much more of a strike bowler these days (and he’s a gooner as you say – do you think the red streak in the hair was him doing a Freddie?) We could also do what every other cricketing nation does and prepare pitches to suit us …. having said that, in this case it would laso suit the aussies

  90. Rasputin says:

Laters rico – back to the footie 😆

Cana is getting an awful lot of mention at the moment – has he actually said he’s looking to move?

  91. Irishgunner says:

Footballers are easily persuaded Rasp, that and I’m sure Nasri could tell him how wonderful Arsenal is 😉

  92. kelsey says:

Irish as a young lady don’t you think Nasri looks like a girl facially.

  93. Irishgunner says:

Maybe a bit Kelsey, he’s better when he doesn’t smile.

  94. Irishgunner says:

May I add getting rid of the highlights was a good idea.

  95. kelsey says:

I got grey highlights naturally, started when I was 29, i kid you not.

By the way I was serious about my proposals earlier, especially Rosicky who will be 29 in August and I think he will be on his last year contract. Is that correct?

  96. Irishgunner says:

I thought Rosicky’s contract was up this summer?

  97. kelsey says:

I doubt you would have seen BBC London local news last night,Irish. They had the guy who runs Arsenal Insider on,and he is organising a non stop chant for 10 minutes at the start and at the end of the game on Sunday of “there’s only one Arsene Wenger”.

Nice bit of publicity for him.

  98. kelsey says:

You may well be right that makes it even more interesting as to his worth. Will he get an extension after 18 months out ?

  99. kelsey says:

done my shift, see you all later.Be safe. Time for a swim.

  100. Irishgunner says:

Didn’t see it Kelsey although I do have the channel.

REDaction are organizing a march too before the game. Maybe a bit OTT … can’t do any harm I suppose.

    10 mins? I’ll time it 😉

  101. Rasputin says:

Shall I organise a chant aimed at the board….

“deserve Arsene Wenger, you don’t deserve Arsene Wenger”……….

  102. Irishgunner says:

“deserve Arsene Wenger, you don’t deserve Arsene Wenger” – What if the missus thinks its aimed at her? 😆

  103. Rasputin says:

    Afterwards we could sing….
“We love you Arsene we do…and so does Mrs Arsene too”

  104. Irishgunner says:

Ha ha cover all bases there Rasp 🙂

  105. Rasputin says:

I’m just wending my weary way home to my smallholding in the hills – got to milk the chickens and put the cows to bed….. catch up later folks 😉

  106. peachesgooner says:

My you’ve been a busy lot this afternoon 🙂

rasp and rico – d’you want a separate section for some cricket chat – not that I mind watching you understand – I have been to Lords and Headingly 😉

  107. Rasputin says:

Do they have Marks and Spencers there then peaches?

  108. Irishgunner says:

Only 1 and 3/4 hours to some football – thank feck…. its been a long few days

  109. rico01 says:

Rasp – top bananna, M&S, they had a penny sale today….

  110. rico01 says:

peaches – i promise not to talk cricket here again 😦

  111. kelsey says:

do they play ladies cricket with a Bobby Vee,and do you have to wear protection. 😉

  112. peachesgooner says:

rico – you must talk about whatever you fancy – I promise its absoluely fine 😆

  113. peachesgooner says:

rico – it was your email that vanished earlier, i’m gonna do it again 🙂

  114. rico01 says:

I was going to ask you if you got it, and i did have a wonder when you said you had lost one 😦 No probs though 😉

  115. peachesgooner says:

    Hiya – you’ve been flying around I see 😳

This site is for all of us, we can chat about whatever comes up – imagine we’re meeting up in the pub or each others front rooms, its all good as far as I’m concerned. I just wish that we were all together 😦

  116. rico01 says:

Me too peaches, me too 😦

  117. Rasputin says:

1 all at half time in the UEFA cup – can’t chat any more at the moment, my son is kicking me off the PC just so he can do his homework….. selfish 🙄

  118. peachesgooner says:

Enjoy the footie rasp – catch up later 😆

  119. rico01 says:

I am off too, night all

  120. Rasputin says:

Sleep well rico, don’t let the cock-a-doodle-do get you up too early 😉

  121. peachesgooner says:

    Nite,nite all – catch up tmoro 😉

  122. Rasputin says:

    Morning all,

No news to speak of today…. 😦

Transfer speculation is rife. You can usually have a good guess at who’s on their way by their behaviour at the last home game so it will be interesting to see if Ade makes an appearance of any kind.

  123. peachesgooner says:

Morning – are we not ‘peachbums’ anymore rasp….. 🙂

Ade’s agent has said his player’s future is unaffected by Arsenes decision to stay at the club…….phew 🙂

  124. Big Raddy says:

My… that IS good news about Ade !

Bank Holiday here – something to do with Jesus and resurrection – not my specialist subject 😉

I have to use streams for the cricket, and they only seem to work when we play the sub-continent. Sadly (?) I head South before they start. Would someone kindly take the rise out of Gnarley George for me?

It will be interesting to see who plays on Saturday, I would like to see some of the kids get a game.

  125. Big Raddy says:

They = The Ashes, of course….

  126. peachesgooner says:

    Hi Raddy

I’m missing the game this weekend – its on sunday by the way – for a wedding 😦 but I am going to the first leg of the Youth FA cup final against Liverpool, which is on Friday night at the Emirates – no shame me 😆

  127. peachesgooner says:

…….and of course I’m taking the soup with me 😉

  128. Rasputin says:

Morning Peaches, Raddy, Peachbums wherever you are…

I think there could be some unusual team selections in quite a few games at the weekend.

In purely financial terms I don’t suppose it matters if we win or lose ….. but the players (and manager of course) will want to end the season on an up note. The team selection in the away game against Stoke epitomised my reservations about AW’s tactical thinking – playing big players just because the opposition was large and trying to defend the throw ins. They scored from 2 throw ins any way and our team was completely unbalanced with players clearly out of position. I’d like to see Arsene put that right and play to our strengths this time. Put that giant AA up front to scare their defenders 😉

  129. Irishgunner says:

Morning folks if anyone is about

Did anyone see the new away kit 😯

Cesc looks like a proper good boy in it, Phil Brown will be glad, it’s like a suit shirt 😕

  130. Big Raddy says:

    I agree Ras,

The Stoke away team was pandering to their strengths and not our own. Song and JD should get a game, thereby assuring some aerial protection. Other than that, I would play a fast, small mobile team. Give Vela a run, and Theo.

  131. kelsey says:

Morning all. What does this mean please.

Ade’s agent has said his player’s future is unaffected by Arsenes decision to stay at the club…….phew 🙂

Up to my eyes in paperwork this morning, will return later

  132. Rasputin says:

I’d be more than happy to see that team Raddy. I know its a big step up, but I’d have liked to see how Coquelin will perform on the big stage too. Merida is potentially a top class player. I don’t know if his game mught be better suited to Spanish/Italian football, bit he must be getting frustrated at lack of 2st team exposure too.

Hi kelsey…. I think for once, you can take the agent’s words at face value. Just because AW is going to stay it doesn’t mean that Ade’s going to….or the converse…if you get my drift 😉

  133. Rasputin says:

    mught = might
    bit = but 😳

  134. Irishgunner says:

I’ve changed my mind in the last few minutes – having just seen the women’s version of the new kit I like it and shall be attaining it 😀

  135. Rasputin says:

    Hi Irish,

Good strong colour but a bit monotone don’t you think?

  136. Irishgunner says:

It is Rasputin, not too gone on the pinstripes going through it. To be honest the pictures aren’t great, they are all a bit dark.

Does anyone ever but the goalkeeper’s one?

  137. Irishgunner says:

    but = buy

  138. Rasputin says:

Goalkeepers are a bit like drummers in bands – a bit mad and ‘basic’ in a primeval sort of a way 😉

Now you come to mention it, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a fan going to a game in a goalkeepers shirt. If you had a keeper who was a real character (like Higuita – the old scorpion kick, permed fella) they might sell a few I suppose.

  139. Irishgunner says:

    Or Jorge Campos’ shirts 😆

  140. Rasputin says:

Looks like South America has the monopoly in ‘roamimg acrobatic goalkeepers’ 😛

Must be a bit boring standing at one end whilst your mates are all having fun at the other. I get the feeling that our players don’t talk enough to one another and sometimes find myself screaming man-on (Diaby!!) when his fellow players just sit back and watch him get dispossessed. Almunia doesn’t appear to call strongly enough when he’s coming to claim the ball, mind you, I used to hate the way mad Jens would shout at poor Kolo.

  141. Irishgunner says:

    Almunia never seems to shout.

Actually that’s a good call Rasputin maybe that is why goalkeepers are largely nutters because they are lonely.

I played in goals a few times in hurling and ended up talking to the crowd beside the goal 😆

  142. Rasputin says:

Isn’t Hurling just an excuse for clubbing the opposition with a token ball just to add some semblance of a game? 😆

  143. Irishgunner says:

Hurling is a smashing game…..literally

  144. Rasputin says:

The Times has reported that Usamov and Kroenke joined forces to persuade Arsene to stay – seems highly implausible unless they are both planning to sell when the shares show a healthy profit…….

If they’re that pally why don’t they join forces and mount a joint takeover?

  145. kelsey says:

Having read a number of reports about the share holders meeting, and accepting the fact that the tabloids are anti Arsenal, there are still some interesting facts.
150 shareholders were invited, yet only 45 turned up.Strange that Wenger fronted the meeting, which is not the norm,as questions should have been directed at the board.AW was asked why Kroenke and Usmanov were not present.(edited)PHW was there but didn’t utter a word.A question by a judge,a shareholder was aimed at the exact position of Adebayor(edited)Many left before the meeting ended as it was clear the few board members present were letting AW take all the flack, and the board would not answer any questions about finance(edited).
So what we got was a sort of MOTD screening of the whole event.

  146. kelsey says:

It was a meeting for Wenger to answer questions to be fair, but apparently many questions directed at Wenger were also about the finances,(the thing most people want to know about) and he said he wasn’t in a position to answer them, and Gazudis nor PHW said anything.

  147. Irishgunner says:

Mannone could be in goals in Sunday as Fabianski is rated 50:50 and Nasri is out with patella tendonitis which I think is Wenger speak for a dodgy knee

  148. Irishgunner says:

So Gazidis and PHW were hiding behind AW?? Not for the first time me thinks

  149. kelsey says:

are we looking to improve our worst ever home defeat, irish 😉

  150. Irishgunner says:

😆 I hope not, I hope Vito can catch some of them long throw ins

  151. peachesgooner says:

    Morning all

I’ve not slept a wink – its gonna be a long day and I’m going to watch the footie tonight so I might be needing a siesta later 🙂

    Anyone up yet?

  152. kelsey says:

Bloody hell peaches, that’s a first you joining the breakfast show.

I have given more thought about who might leave this summer,as I never speculate as to who we might buy,as they are just our personal choices and are just open to debate,if nothing else.

it is quite a complex situation and though not being able to prove anything,Wenger has stated that he has given up on Adebayor and that he is a disruptive influence,so I guess he is on his way, rumour has it even to Chelsea as drogba appears to be off.

I hope the boss knows what he is doing by tripling Theo’s wages.Does he deserve it yet ? or does he feel he will really become a force(as he was anonymous in both United games and Chelsea, which is a good bench mark) or is he scared of losing him to another club.

Then there is the so called conflict with Gallas and Toure.Hopefully they will both stay as they are better than any other option we have got,but if Gallas or Toure leaves I expect a direct replacement.

RVP is still leaving his options open, why hasn’t he signed ?
Then Eduardo,it was kept very quiet about a second small operation on his ankle until now,the concentration was on his repetitive groin strains.

rosicky out of contract this summer aged 29.Great player when fit but nearly 20 months out will he get a contract extension and will he ever come back to his best.

All the so called deadwood that many of us want out, will most probably stay, and Bedntner may well go up the pecking order but he is still not the finished article.

I feel as there is now reportedly a bigger kitty than we thought plus the probable sale of Ade should give us enough money for 3 players around the 15 million mark each, because that is the minimum we need and also we have to keep the balance right.

Then the ANC is a huge factor,so I expect vela,Ramsey and Wilshere to feature more in the first team when required and traore to come back into the squad.Senderos may also be off,a nice lad but i feel he has been mentally shattered at Arsenal,as he has been found out once to often.

The only surprise is that Diaby may be sacrificed and sold on, but that’s just my opinion.

  153. Rasputin says:

Morning peachbums – paeches / kelsey,

It’s being reported Vito Manone (sounds like a character out of The Godfather) could play on sunday. I’ve seen him play in the reserves and not been particularly impressed. To put him on the big stage against the subtle ‘blunderbus attack’ of Stoke is going to be a huge test but it looks like we have no choice unless Fab’s knee improves….

  154. Rasputin says:

    paeches = peaches 😳

  155. Rasputin says:

A couple of clips that I’m sure you’ve already read…

The Independent – Fabregas did not spit, FA rules
Cesc Fabregas has been cleared by the Football Association of spitting at the Hull City assistant manager Brian Horton in the extraordinary aftermath of Arsenal’s FA Cup tie with Hull City in March.

The Daily Telegraph – Emmanuel Adebayor may have played his last game for Arsenal
Emmanuel Adebayor is expected to miss Arsenal’s final match of the season against Stoke City on Sunday, meaning he may have played his last game for the club.

  156. rico01 says:

you poor old sausage peaches, no sleep is horrid and makes a long hard day 😦

  157. rico01 says:

Rasp – ‘Ade played his last game’, dont you mean he has had his last bimble around on grass wearing an Arsenal kit 😉

  158. Rasputin says:

Ha ha rico …. apart from anything else, I think the effect ade has on the rest of the squad is so negative. There was a much better work ethic (and lack of offsides) against manu last week – the team were playing for one another again

  159. rico01 says:

Agreed rasp, and against Pompey – dont think he was there then either ?

Also, didnt our good run start just after he got injured 😉

  160. Rasputin says:

Yes it did rico, but Cesc was injured too and even though he’s never showed top form this season, I couldn’t blame the overall lack of performance on Cesc – although he is the most important cog. (did I just argue with myself? 😉 )

  161. rico01 says:

I do believe you did Rasp – but men often do, we ladies just sit back and listen…. 😛

  162. Rasputin says:

    Aaaahhhhh…. Vive la différence!!

You can’t be an aggressive fast bowler and a shrinking violet at the same time can you??

I’m playing tomorrow – good chance to get my batting average above zero 😦 (actually it’s the first competitive game of the season for me)

  163. Big Raddy says:

Yesterday afternoon I went to the Danish Cup Final between my local team FCK (the Chelsea of SuperLiga) and AAB, last season’s Champs and 3rd in the league this season.

The first thing to say is how enjoyable it was to see rivalry without hostility. Most of the fans were mixed together – though the ‘Ultras’ tend to stick together, and they REALLY sing non-stop for 90 minutes.

The standard of football would be Brighton/Leeds level. Good entertaining stuff. High levels of technique and fitness, as you would expect from Scandi’s. Flair supplied by Brazilians – both teams had 3.

You can drink beer in your seat,(though at £7 a pint, not too many!). The stewards were polite, the police almost non-existent. At the final whistle both teams went to the handicap areas and had photos taken, both teams threw their shirts to the crowd, both teams applauded each other when the medals were given. Quel difference.

    And the sun shone…..

  164. rico01 says:

Rasp, trust me there was nothing very fast about my bowling, more of a Mark Ealham or Paul Collingwood 😉

You lucky tinker, summer is truly nearby when the village cricket season begins – good luck and swish swosh tha bat about and dont forget to let us know how you do…

Shrinking Violet – more like a Dandy Lion 😉

  165. rico01 says:

Morning Raddy, other that the £7 for a beer, that sounded like the perfect afternoon

  166. Big Raddy says:

Normal price for a beer in Dk !

I lived for many years in a picturesque Cotswolds village, and loved the village cricket scene. So competitive, yet so traditional. I was a big fan and followed my local team all the way to Lords.

Sadly, my cricketing skills were limited to the beach. But I (along with Michael Jagger) am a big fan.

  167. Irishgunner says:

No ban for Cesc – that’s a first for the FA

  168. kelsey says:

No one about to hear my good news,Just been to the dentist to get an estimate for two implants for 3 crowns. Not pleasant reading I am afraid, one of the joys of getting older.

At least fab is fabuously fit

  169. Big Raddy says:

    Sorry to hear it Kelsey.

A couple of years ago I had an estimate for dental work that came to nearly £7k. 3 implants, a crown and some nasty root stuff.

So I got on the net, found the best dentist (UK trained) in Mumbai, got a cheap flight and the whole shebang including a 2 week holiday in Goa, for less than half the UK cost.

I hear that Thailand is also very good for dentistry. And some of the Balkan countries.

I have to say that dentists, alongside plumbers, electricians, gas men, and lawyers are thieving bastards to a man

  170. Big Raddy says:

    What was the ‘good news?’

  171. Irishgunner says:

“I have to say that dentists, alongside plumbers, electricians, gas men, and lawyers are thieving bastards to a man” – you forgot politicians

  172. kelsey says:

    I was being sarcastic.

You have to be careful over here with doctors and dentists, especially the british and Germans,as many have been struck off in their home countries and then come over here.

    cash is king,so one deals.

  173. kelsey says:

Oh there is no National Health dentristry over here.

  174. Rasputin says:

Hi folks…. on the subject of implants, I’ve had a quote for £2K and been told that you have to wait for the bone to grow around the post before the crown can be fitted so how can that be achieved in a single visit to the dentist?

  175. Rasputin says:

Sorry Irish, all this tooth stuff is of no consequence to a young whippersnapper like you!

Raddy – They shoot horses don’t they 😉

  176. Irishgunner says:

Hi Rasputin – You going to the game tonight?

  177. Rasputin says:

Sadly not Irish – I have classes on a friday and I can’t escape, and being in the Garden Centre industry I work on sundays as well 😦

  178. kelsey says:

    Where is Lady Chatterley’s Lover ? 🙂

  179. kelsey says:

it depends which part of the mouth the teeth are situated.2K sounds cheap, make sure he doesn’t use a hammer.

Seiousley you have to wait about 6 weeks after the posts are fitted so that the area heals and a temporary is fitted and you have to eat non chewy foods.

    My consultancy charge 100 euros.

  180. kelsey says:

the game is on sultana tonight, quite a surprise.

  181. Irishgunner says:

I’ll be watching it online I’m afraid 😐

  182. kelsey says:

Are you a Park Keeper by any chance, rasp. 😉

  183. Irishgunner says:

    Sellotanta, Kelsey 😉

Have you heard of a comedy group called “Apres Match”? They do sketches all the time and call Setanta, Sellotanta, they’re very funny.

  184. Rasputin says:

How did you guess Kelsey? 😛

Will you take co-op vouchers in lieu of payment for your services?

Like you Irish, I have to watch a lot of games online – also there are the financial constraints to consider. With my kids, I guess we get to see about a dozen games a season and that would ammount to about £1k all told.

  185. kelsey says:

no don’t know that one irish, most of the comedians I know are left footed (cryptic clue)

  186. Irishgunner says:

I’m not going to even think about how much I have spent on Arsenal this season.

    If I don’t see it, it didn’t happen 😉

  187. Rasputin says:

    ammount = amount 😳

  188. Irishgunner says:

This is them taking off Andy Gray

  189. Rasputin says:

    Irish 🙂

  190. Rasputin says:

There are some good things going on at Hull after all ….

  191. Irishgunner says:

I can’t stop laughing at Apres Match and no one else in the house gets it cos its too football related.

They are brilliant at doing Venables and Brady 🙂

  192. peachesgooner says:

    Hi all

Deep joy – a dentistry blog and theres me with a huge gap in my mouth because my crown came out yesterday!!!!! My dentist is on holiday and so I had to visit an emergency dentist – who told me the very bad news that the gold pin had broken in half 😦 half in my tooth and half in my mouth.

Now how do we think thats gonna come out – I’m trying not to think about it at all 😦 😦 😦

  193. Irishgunner says:

    Weird – what’s up with people’s teeth 😕

  194. Big Raddy says:

Very interesting Peaches. Surgery for you 😦

As to the implants, being a ‘traveller’, I went away for a few weeks while the bone knitted around the implant. The ‘crown’ that was put on was horribly uncomfortable, and the whole process was deeply unpleasant. And I have a bridge fitted by a London dentist that needs replacing, so I am thinking of going to Prague for some treatment (the girlfriend won’t let me go to Thailand on my own, and I will never go back to India.

Sorry to carry on about dentistry…. maybe I should find a teeth chatroom – there must be one somewhere !

  195. Big Raddy says:

I need some holiday books. Any recommendations?

  196. Irishgunner says:

What types of books are you into Raddy?

  197. kelsey says:

only peaches could have a gold pin all the new ones are titanium

    teeth chatroom…..priceless raddy.

Fact half the population of the UK have lost all their teeth by the age of 40.Aren’t we lucky(Irish excluded)

  198. kelsey says:

He loves anything he can’t do anymore, irish.

  199. kelsey says:

How to achieve a sun tan in Hull…….limited edition.

  200. Irishgunner says:

    😆 ha ha ha

  201. Big Raddy says:

    Is that a fact Kelsey?

Irish. I like anything well written. My faves are Dickens, Austen, Hardy, Murakami, good crimi’s, stuff about distant lands.

I am reading the latest Kate Atkinson which is first class (as always).

Going to watch the kids, if I can find a stream

  202. Rasputin says:

The kids are playing really well and 3:1 up – we’ll have to get peaches to do a match report.

  203. Rasputin says:

    4:1 game over…..I’m talking to myself I know 😉

  204. Irishgunner says:

Great game from the young guys and a good crowd too. Hope you enjoyed it Peaches.

Raddy – Have you read “The Portrait of Dorian Gray”? excellent book

  205. Rasputin says:

    Morning peachbums 😛

  206. peachesgooner says:

    Morning rasp – gorgeous day 😛 😛

  207. Rasputin says:

Morning peaches – yes, perfect conditions for cricket 😉

That arse Stan Collymoron was saying on the radio when we were 2:1 up that the pool youngsters were better than us…. If only we could fast forward a couple of years. We all know gppd LJ is, but I really rate Coquelin, I hope he gets his chance next season.

  208. rico01 says:

Morning Rasp, peaches – have been checking and no-one aroud, then you both appear…… 😉

  209. rico01 says:

What time does your cricket start Rasp, make sure you have your factor 50 packed 😛

What a game last night, cant wait for the 2nd leg

  210. Rasputin says:

    Morning rico,

Yes, fantastic game again last night….. once again it shows how we can perform when the young players have the freedom to express themselves.

The cricket starts at 1:30, but I may not play due to some ‘club politics’ but at least I’ll get to see my son perform.

How are you planning to spend this gorgeous day?

  211. peachesgooner says:

Hi rico – I went to the game last night and congratulations to Arsenal – the ticket prices £5 adult £1 for children meant that there were 33,600 there it was a fantastic atmosphere.

The football was rather good too – did you watch it?

  212. peachesgooner says:

    rasp – I’m sure I heard a rumour that you’d found a picture for your avatar…..yes……no

  213. rico01 says:

What a beautiful day, and I have been up since 5.45, popped into town, scrubbed the chicken pen and now its the piggie’s turn 😉

I did watch it peaches, I thought it was fab, so many of our young players are going to make it, Lansbury, what a change in him, he has suddenly grown up and now just getting on with his football.

Politics Rasp, thats a shame – is it to do with not allowing players over pension age to play 😉 😉

  214. rico01 says:

Now you have both gone again …….

So, I am off now to enjoy the lovely weather..

Have a great day tomorrow peaches, try not to think about the footie, after all, its not that important 😉 🙂 🙄

Rasp, hope you get a game today and you win, if not, like you say at least you can enjoy the sunshine watching your lad play..

Have a great day all, catch up soon 😛

  215. peachesgooner says:

Ooh a lot of popping in and out going on – have a great day rico – factor 50 all round I reckon….about time 🙂

  216. Big Raddy says:

Wet and cold here. Can’t believe I am envious of British weather!!

Yes I have read PODG Irish, but thanks for the suggestion.

Really enjoyed the game last night, more than the first team !! Maybe we will get like the States with their College Football where 80,000 go to watch their local College teams. Who knows, with the rise in interest in the Youth teams, it could happen.

  217. peachesgooner says:

    Hi raddy

Don’t fret – its clouded over now 😦

  218. Rasputin says:

Game over, we lost, my son did OK, but not as good as he would have liked…….

After tomorrow, there’s not much to look forward to 😦 (I know, I know rico – the Ashes!)

  219. peachesgooner says:

Hello rasp – must be time for you to have a consoling beer 🙂

  220. peachesgooner says:

    …….or should that be a consolation beer……..

  221. Rasputin says:

No beer on offer 😦 and a very busy week ahead with the Bank Holiday and kids off school 😦 😦 😦

  222. kelsey says:

Good evening all, very busy day in the outfield for me as well.Just watched Robin Hood, but I miss lilly Alan’s dad (The Sheriff of Nottingham) who was bumped off two episodes ago.

  223. kelsey says:

Must be murder clearing all those litter bins in the park, with all those kids being off for an extended weekend.Do you get double time on bank holidays,Rasp.

  224. kelsey says:

I know we or i mustn’t mention other sites, especially the self preservation society, but there’s a hell of a match going on after 6 hours it’s two sets all and 13-13 in the decider.

  225. kelsey says:

“In October 1996, one Arsenal share must have been worth about £400. Now it is nearer to £10,000.

    As quoted by our boss.

Anyway I talk to myself enough during the rest of the day,so I bid you goodnight.

  226. kelsey says:

    Oh Irish,

one of your articles from the bleacher report was highlighted today by a poster on the main page of TeamTalk.Well done.

  227. Rasputin says:

Kelsey …. have you ever read ‘Parky’ in VIZ magazine… well that’s me 😉

  228. peachesgooner says:

Hey guys – really sorry, I was watching some ‘debating’ elsewhere 🙂

kelsey – nice of you to pop in 😆

Catch up tmoro all – we have football weyhey 😛

  229. kelsey says:

    Morning all,

I wake up and read this,is this another greedy player,a get out clause or tabloid nonsense.

Part of the article is incorrect. The tax band is 18% in Spain not 25%.

I have always maintained that players join clubs, first and foremost to get the best monetry deal for themselves and their agents.Don’t hold your breath about Arshavin,he has no loyalty to us or anyone else, only himself, and that is the problem with big league players today.

  230. rico01 says:

    Morning all

Rasp, sorry you lost yesterday – did you play in the end or watch your son ? And yes, The Ashes, The 20/20 WC, Wimbledon, the silly transfer season – What more could you ask for Rasp ????? 😉

  231. peachesgooner says:

    Morning all

    NEW POST ……………….
