No Phoenix rising so far and we have an important game tonight so lets get back to why we’re  here…….

I always feel every game is an important game and tonights challenge against Aston Villa is definitely going to be testing. They feel they should be part of the Big Four and we can keep up the chase for Top Spot by coming home with a vital 3 points.

I’m hoping that Cesc won’t be feeling too downhearted that he wasn’t able to singlehandedly turn the game around on Sunday to our advantage. He does need the classier players around him to help work his magic.

I expect Nikki Pink Boots to make an appearance from the bench and show us why the boss has decided he now doesn’t need to be buying or loaning a striker. No pressure Nik – our success this season probably depends on you staying fit  and helping out up front, not necessarily scoring goals but being a presence between opposing centre backs. I’m excited at the thought.

The boss has said that Theo won’t be at his best for 6 weeks!!!!!!! Come on Theo – prove him wrong, keep that ball under control tonight, use your pace intelligently, get into the right positions and have a shot – try and remember you’re a footballer and your team needs you.

Are there any rules about wearing hats while playing – should Arshavin be allowed on the pitch with his on? ?  Scarves next 🙂

Rasputin is compiling an evergrowing list of new names for the blog so keep putting  up your suggestions.

Have a nice day all, see you in the comments………..

  1. peachesgooner says:

    Morning all

I forgot to check if there were any new injuries to report……anyone know?

I’ll leave London to start off the ‘who’s going to play game’ although I’d love to see Sol again 😳

  2. Irishgunner says:

    You’re up early Peaches.

    ——————– Almunia —————-

    Sagna ——— Gallas ——- Vermaelen —— Clichy

    ——————– Denilson ———————

    ——– Fabregas ————— Rosicky ————

    Bendtner ———– Eduardo ———– Arshavin —-

  3. London says:

New post at 6:42…, that’s what I call determination.

I agree with Irish’s team selection although if Diaby is fit I would expect him to start in place of Bendtner

    Morning/Night Irish.

  4. London says:

Nice post, by the way Peaches.

  5. peachesgooner says:

    Hi Irish

I couldn’t get the post to write last night and woke up really early wondering if I should have sent a question to Mr WordPress. I still can’t get it to open in Firefox but it did open in Internet explorer thus we have a new post.

How are you? No Diaby in your team is he injured?

  6. Irishgunner says:

    Morning London

I think Diaby is still out, not too sure but looking yesterday around the net people weren’t confident he’d be back.

Great if he was – he scored a cracker against Villa last season.

  7. Irishgunner says:

    Is Diaby back then?

Well I think Wenger would put him in instead of Super Tom and not Denilson …. unfortunately…

  8. peachesgooner says:

Morning London – thanks, don’t expect such dedication every day. I brought my lap-top to bed last night while I was trying to sort the problem so it was pretty easy to wake up and start again – at 5.15am 😳

I feel like a right princess sitting in bed blogging 😉 Someone bring me a cup of coffee please……

  9. London says:

If Diaby is back I wouln’t exept him to replace Denilson in your line up. I expect Rosicky to go out on the right replacing Bendtner and Diaby to move back to where you have Rosicky to try an help Denilson as much as he can.

Do you wear a red and white scarf when you blog in bed with your lap top?

  10. peachesgooner says:

The pink and white one for bed …. 🙂

  11. London says:

The last sentence was meant for Peaches, I am in no doubt Irish that you are wearing a red and white scarf while you are blogging in Aus.

  12. London says:

Ahh yes, I have seen those pink and white lady’s Arsenal scarves.

  13. Irishgunner says:

I’ve the red and white scarf hanging up – a bit warm for the old scarf London 😉

  14. Irishgunner says:

I so have an Arsenal jersey on me now though – the White Herbert Champman one

  15. peachesgooner says: says no Diaby but Nasri is in the squad so Super Sexy Tom might be on the bench or the other way round.

    Nikki won’t start – he’ll be eased in won’t he…….

  16. London says:

I am wearing my red and white cashmere scarf, it is the only one I could find…but it is not long enough, which is a bit annoying; there is a gap in the market for a decent length red and white cashmere scarf.

  17. peachesgooner says:

I loved that top Irish – its the one with writing on isn’t it, much nicer than the old mans striped pyjamas that they have to wear this season – who designs these tops ……

  18. Irishgunner says:

You could just knit one London

  19. peachesgooner says:

    Knit one London 😆

  20. Irishgunner says:

Yep that’s the one Peaches – has the blackcurrant colour running through it.

  21. London says:

Yep, I agree, Rosicky will play, Wenger rewards goal scorers, with Nasri on the bench along side Bentner, who as you say, will be eased back in.

  22. Big Raddy says:

I have the same scarf London, and agree about the length.

I need it here. Heavy snow this morning, and MINUS 18 last night !! The sea has frozen over!

Looking forward to tonight, it will be so cold the players will be running around like blue.arsed. flies (whatever they are!)

  23. London says:

By the way Peaches your firefox problem may be related to your router rather than WordPress. This may sound as though I know what I am talking about but I don’t, I just remember having a similar problem with firefox and solving it by phoning my broad band supplier and getting them to help me change the router settings. Imagine a radio that is not quite tuned in properly and you get the idea.

  24. Irishgunner says:

I won’t get to see the game 😦

  25. London says:

    Morning BR

I never trusted those blue arsed flies something about their choice of colour that just wasn’t quite right.

  26. London says:

I think you have about as much chance of seeing the game as anyone over here.

  27. Irishgunner says:

I’ll have no internet in the morning London – no internet no match.

  28. Irishgunner says:

    My my

Federer was a set down and break point to Davydenko in the second set – he has won 13 games in a row.

Serena Williams came back from the death too today. They aren’t number one for nothing.

  29. alfamilano says:

Morning everyone. Good post peaches. I can’t work out from SSN and the BBC whether SuperNik and Nasri are on the bench or just back in training.

Villa seem to have some injury problems.

And it looks like Jar Jar Binks will be suspended for the mancs at the weekend because ‘there appears to be compelling evidence that he did commit an offence’ ie film of him whacking that Hull player. So the mancs probably won’t appeal.

  30. London says:

Morning Alfa have confirmed that Bendtner and Nasri are on the bench while Diaby is still out.

  31. London says:

Confirmed that they are in the sqaud I should say.

  32. Irishgunner says:

Apparently we’ll find out tomorrow where Wilshere is going

  33. peachesgooner says:

    Morning Raddy and alfa

I have a very good stream that I use – you can pay per game or have a season ticket, it costs £2 a game. You have to download the software first so its wise to try and do that earlier in the day…….

    This is the link…..

You need to register – username and password – you can pay by paypal – you’ll get an icon on your desktop and from then on its really easy.

Have a go, let me know if you have any problems

  34. peachesgooner says:

In fact I’m such a wiz at these technical things that I connect my lap-top to my tv too……..that can be another lesson 😉

  35. Irishgunner says:

I find pretty good most of the time.

  36. peachesgooner says:

Scarily, the talk on the net last night was that Wilshire was going to Bolton!!!!!!! What did he do wrong d’you think……..

  37. peachesgooner says:

Ok, enough of this laying around in bed blogging – shower and coffee needed – be back soon…..

  38. Irishgunner says:

Bolton would turn him into a thug – might be good for him, unless Bolton have someone we want??

I bet all that came about because Wenger said he is above not sending him to Bolton but never said he’d actually go there.

Could be West Ham, Wolves even Hull ha ha could be anyone

  39. London says:

    Aston Villa – Arsenal (Live)
Aston Villa – Arsenal (Live) Sport – Calcio

    SKY Calcio 3

    h 20:15

    That’s me sorted

  40. Irishgunner says:

What an AWESOME game of tennis.

Back to footy, we signing anyone?

  41. Rasputin says:

    Morning exiles 😉

Excellent succinct post peaches .. that’s all we need unless the Bard of London is in a creative mood 🙂

We’ve had some fun with the name debate. I’d like to condense it down to the front runners and then offer it up for a vote in keeping with the democratic nature on here.

I had written an exhausting list of all the suggestions – and then lost it 😦

Here are my favourites so far

Oo-To-Be (can’t decide on the use of capitals)
    One Team in London

Raddy had some good sugestions I remember. Please put up your favourite 1 or 2 so I can drwaw up a shortlist.

Morning rico and ave … come and join us ….. 😛

  42. Rasputin says:

    Morning Irish,

Is tennis your second sport then or is it because you’re in the land of XXXX?

Arsene says Chesney can be Arsenals No.1 – so he gives Vito a new long term contract – are our keepers as confused as I am? 🙄

  43. Irishgunner says:

Not a massive Tennis fan Rasp but I do watch all the Grand Slams, great game when you get into it.

I watch pretty much any sport except cricket and Rugby League – BOoooooooooooooooooring!!

  44. Big Raddy says:

Ras. I can only assume that AW has taken the advice of the GK coach because he appears to be blind to this position. Do we really need 4 GK’s plus another youngster who is supposed to be excellent in James Shea.

    Who knows?.

Perhaps it is a commercial decision and the will be looking to offload one of the GK’s for a couple of mill.

  45. Rasputin says:

Hush your mouth – cricket is nailbitingly exhilarating 😆 sometimes I get so I excited I have to have another cucumber sandwich….

What timescale do you think we/Arsene shouldgive to this fantastic emergence of Theo as a top layer? Arsene’s doing his ‘big him up’ thing in an attempt to boost his confidence – but it’s all pretty transparent…

  46. Big Raddy says:

    Hi Irish.

Cricket boring? A cultured game for Gentlemen.

  47. Big Raddy says:

    Tough one Ras.

We have all seen Theo’s talent, but he seems to have gone backwards this year. Is it confidence, os he trying to hard or is he ring rusty? Whatever it is he is contributing nothing to the team and when Nik returns TW’s chances will dwindle further.

It is such a shame I have/had such belief in him

  48. peachesgooner says:

    From yesterday……..

    Same old Arsenal

    Pride of London

  49. alfamilano says:

BR, given they way they all seem to be playing, we do need 4GKs but all playing at the same time 🙂

  50. Irishgunner says:

Ferguson has banned Sky’s cameras from his press conferences at the club’s training ground after he learned that the television company – at the Football Association’s request – produced the pictures that have led to Ferdinand being charged. The United manager also believes Sky is partly to blame for the bad feeling surrounding tonight’s match, after repeatedly broadcasting pictures of Gary Neville showing his middle finger to Carlos Tevez in last week’s first leg.

    😆 what a loser

You gentlemen can keep your game 😉

  51. London says:

    Morning Rasp

I read the Wenger’s comment of: “We won’t see the best of Theo for another six weeks” as a way of taking the pressure of him.

  52. Rasputin says:

Morning Raddy, sorry I didn’t listbyour name suggestions – I remember there were some good ones.

I wonder how much Arsene listens to his GK advisors – or are they all Pat Rice types? He’s not the best judge of a GK it seems..

  53. Rasputin says:

    Morning London,

That’s a good point, we can’t expect Theo to come back and peak straight away – unfortunately the same is true with Nik. As we all keep saying, if we’re still in the mix after the next 4 games, the future is bright 😛

  54. Rasputin says:

    Hi alfa,

That’s a good solution to the GK problem 😉 how about when there’s a free kick, just put the wall in the goal mouth to shut off every square inch ….

  55. Big Raddy says:

No problem Ras. Most were rubbish anyway.

    I like Same Old Arsenal

I have to cycle into town and there are a few inches of snow. Thankfully I have a mountain bike but it is still treacherous. Hope to be back in the Pad later today.

  56. Rasputin says:

    OK, shortlist so far….

    One Team in London
    Pride of London
    Same Old Arsenal
CHOCOLATE LEGS (I hope you’re joking peaches!!)

Everyone can offer their top two preferences …… what’s your favourite alfa?

  57. alfamilano says:

I thought Bob Wilson was still a part time advisor/coach.

  58. London says:

If we are winning towards the end tonight then I expect Walcott to come on. The game will be stretched as Villa surge forward in an attempt to equalise, this will create space which is ideal for Walcott’s special talent to exploit.

If we are loosing then Bendtner is best placed to take advantage of the high crosses Sagna will be sending in.

With Nasri on the bench and Song available on Sunday, Wenger’s tool box is almost full again giving him a wider range of options to succeed in getting the job done.

  59. London says:

I think you will find that Bob Wilson retired with Seaman but that does raise a good question: Who is the goalkeeping coach?

  60. Rasputin says:

I agree London, for me, it all hinges on how we take to the pitch. The first 20 minutes against Stoke were dire. We do have more grit. We have to play with purpose and control from the off. Arsene never starts with players who are coming back from injury, but brings them on in the latter stages – hopefully to create more problems for a tiring opposition rather than retrieve a losing score.

My prediction is 1:3 to The Pride of London ….

  61. Rasputin says:

Bob Wilson was upset that Stuart Tylor didn’t get much of a look in … I heard several interviews where he said he was the best young engklish keeper he’d ever worked with…

  62. London says:

Hmmm 1:3 is a good call; so, to avoid being boring and not do the same thing I will go for 1:2

By the way, I have just found the smiley library, do you just copy and paste them, is that how it works?

  63. alfamilano says:

And what can you use the smiley library for? I used lookup the WordPress Codex smiley list sometimes so that I know how to do this 😯 💡 🙄 but I couldn’t figure out the library.

London I thought Bob was still involved a bit but obviously not regularly.

  64. alfamilano says:

Of course, our GK coach is the legendary Gerry Peyton

  65. Rasputin says:

I think the library is just intended to show you what to type to reproduce the faces .. as alfa has just demonstrated

  66. peachesgooner says:

Actually the Smiley Library was when wordpress changed all the smileys and we didn’t know what the new ones were – I think I can take it off now…….in Firefox the cursor doesn’t hover on the smileys anway 😦

  67. alfamilano says:

Rasp, in the library all I can see are the smileys themselves, not the text used to create them. So it’s inspiring but maybe not doing what is intended.

Sorry if this is sounding like a whinge, not meant that way at all.

  68. peachesgooner says:

Irish – you’ve been waiting for such an opportunity haven’t you to write about the whinger 😆

  69. Rasputin says:

I like it Irish .. do you get the impression old red nose is getting to the ned of his career? I bet he’d like to win something major this season and then leave on a high.

He must know that their financial situation is going to leave him handcuffed in the transfer market so they are inevitably going to be less successful. Like our present government, he can see hard times ahead and wouldn’t be too unhappy if someone else was appointed to clear up the mess!

  70. peachesgooner says:

I take the hint – I shall remove them as soon as I work out how to 😳

  71. alfamilano says:

peaches, thanks. I’m using Chrome, nothing happens when I hover over the smileys which is why I didn’t realise how it was supposed to work 😳

I’d leave it, sounds like a good idea if you’ve got the right browser

  72. peachesgooner says:

Well done Irish – I hope you’ve got your writers armour on, you’ll need some protection from the manc bloggers 😉

  73. alfamilano says:

I’m going 0:1 for tonight; Theo to score 😀

  74. peachesgooner says:

    Oooh controversial 😛

  75. Rasputin says:

The likelihood is that we won’t remain on this site, but create a new one under a new name, so it’s not worth puttting a lot of effort in here until we know what we’re going to do ….

It really all hinges on how many folks we can get involved and how much we will be able to share the running/management of the site. I think we’re lucky in that most of us have access to the internet during the day. Peaches demonstrated perfectly today that a short post which takes 10 minutes to write is better than no post at all….

  76. Irishgunner says:

It was like gold for me what Ferguson did Peaches.

Rasp – I think he still wants to get one ahead of Liverpool then he’ll go.

I’m waiting for the “You’re always complain about the media but then when it suits you, you agree with them, you are a hypocrite” And I’ll say “Nah, just stoking the flames for the weekend” 😀

  77. Rasputin says:

Blimey … we’ve had 77 responses so far today ….

London, do you think Benell would like to join us?

  78. London says:

Rasp, I’m sure he will but I think it’s fair to say that he is happy being an occasional contributor. Either way, I will let him know the nest time I see him.

By the way it is Benwell, named after a road very near to the Emirates where he was brought up.

  79. Irishgunner says:

I could get a couple more bloggers if ye want them? They might only be occasional though.

  80. Rasputin says:

The CL is manure’s best chance of a trophy this season, I can’t see them being able to strengthen their squad significantly for the next few years – maybe that’s why they’ve gone for Smalling – following Arsene’s business model. We should charge them a consultancy fee 🙂

  81. Rasputin says:

Occassional is fine – the more the merrier, we just need a strong nucleus of half a dozen or so.

  82. Rasputin says:

Right, I’m off for a couple of hours … laters all 😉

  83. peachesgooner says:

London – will you be able to do an eloquent post match for us all tomorrow – I’ll put you into the controls so that you can put it straight on……pretty please 🙂

  84. peachesgooner says:

Irish of course you can spread the word but let them know that we will probably be moving to new site at some point………

  85. London says:

If you give me special powers (I miss my ability to correct my own atrocious spelling) I will try but it will almost certainly be quite late as unlike super fast Irish I am a very slow writer.

  86. Irishgunner says:

I’ll wait till the new site is going Peaches then get them onboard.

We have an awesome thunder and lightening storm here at the moment – the sky is lit up, mad stuff.

  87. London says:

    Where exactly are you Irish?

  88. Irishgunner says:

Batemans Bay – two hours from Canberra

  89. peachesgooner says:

London – I’m going to try and put you on now….

  90. peachesgooner says:

Sorry, I should have said thankyou first 🙂

  91. London says:

I have just Google Earthed Batemans Bay, it looks like a great place, how did you chose it?

  92. Irishgunner says:

My brother got work down here and I followed 🙂

It is a nice place, some fantastic beaches nearby just no 24hr pubs to show Arsenal matches ala Sydney/Melbourne but I only miss the odd one so can’t complain

  93. London says:

Success, I will do what I can.

  94. peachesgooner says:

Thanks again. Are you going to watch the game somewhere?

  95. London says:

I tend to go to the Twelve Pins in Finsbury Park, the problem is finding out it they are definitely showing the game as when you phone they always say they are even if they are not because they just want people to turn up. So the way I have found round this is to log onto Sky Italia to see if it is being shown in Italy, it is, so I know that The Twelve Pins will have it and that is where I will be heading tonight.

  96. peachesgooner says:

I watched a fantastic game there a couple of years ago – the away tie to Bolton when we came from 2 goals down to win it 3-2 in the pouring rain – Cesc scored the winner and the place went crazy……..

  97. London says:

Has Smalling signed for United or not?

Should we even care if he has? The notion that Wenger cannot find a young up and coming central defender as good if not better than Smalling somewhere in the world does not hold water. Young up and coming is what Wenger does par excellence and no one comes close to doing it better.

  98. peachesgooner says:

Someone told me that the little hotel near Hadley Wood woods shows football – the one as you go through the gate down to East Barnet – do you know where I mean London and alfa – I can’t remember its name otherwise I’d call them……..

  99. peachesgooner says:

I was just thinking about Flamini – London – you saying the game was on sky Italia – has he decided where hes going yet?

  100. Irishgunner says:

We had Kyle Bartley anyway London, he looks like he has the makings of a good defender and Djourou as well.

Gallas looks likely to sign his new deal – Vermaelen is going to be with us a long time and we’ll have Djourou who should be ready to step up and Bartley who can continue to develop.

Campbell and Silvestre could both be going in the summer so he probably will need to get in another experienced CB then.

Song can play there but I think he’s better sitting in front of the back four.

  101. London says:

It is a good place to watch the games, there is more singing than there is at the Emirates, well, certainly more than there is around me in the Yellow quadrant but that is not hard. The other thing about the pub is that as the prejudices of blogshire don’t exist you can get a better view of what supporters think of different players.

  102. Irishgunner says:

    *have Kyle Bartley

  103. London says:

Peaches, I know Hadley Wood but I haven’t lived in the area for a long, long time, this is Alfa’s domain, he lives within walking distance of Hadley.

  104. London says:

In fact, I used to do a paper round in Hadley Wood, I had almost forgotten about that.

  105. kelsey says:

i am feeling completely left out on here. my contributions are not worth a fig leaf. am i upset ? who knows.

why not as some of us think supporting arsenal is a bit of a comedy sometimes

    Carry on Arsenal

I am available for various functions from time to time.

oh by the way villa shipped in 4 goals last week to blackburn, so defensively they aren’t that clever.

  106. London says:

You’ve lost me Kelsey, why do you think that your comments are not worth a fig leaf?

  107. Rasputin says:

I’m interested that you say those who frequent the pub don’t have the prejudices of ‘blogshire’ – how do you fancy doing a survey in there tonight to judge feeling as regards Denilson?

  108. Irishgunner says:

I watched a number of Carry On films Christmas Day – very funny.

  109. kelsey says:

    depression… that’s all.

  110. Rasputin says:

Your comments are highly valued and you are an important part of the core bloggers we want to recruit in the running of the site. Please don’t take offence, I’m certain no-one meant to ignore or upset you.

  111. Rasputin says:

This is not intended to be peaches site or my site – we are just trying to steer the process to a point where the framework is in place. Ideally I’d like all of the core of bloggers (kelsey – that includes you) to have the controls and put up posts/edit etc etc, then peaches and I can just be one of the crowd.

  112. Irishgunner says:

Rasp – that’s unfair unless he has a good game.

Denilson is someone who fans come down hard on so his crap performance against Stoke will form a bias.

Now Arshavin has been awful in some games for us but he will never get the doing that Denilson will because he is one of the “special ones” seemingly beyond reproach.

Its like Silvestre – I don’t think he was too bad against Stoke and he has done okay most times he has come on yet he is always judged as crap simply because he was an ex-Manc.

  113. peachesgooner says:

Don’t panic everybody kelsey is to be the blog joker just to keep rasp on his toes 😆

  114. London says:

Well, that was exactly the player that I was thinking of Rasp. I know myself that the telly really distorts peoples view of this player but anyway I will let you know what level the moans and groans are.

  115. Rasputin says:

London has kindly volunteered to be an administrator so he can put a post up and everyone else is welcome to do the same……all for one and one for all …… 😛

  116. Rasputin says:

    Here’s a naughty suggestion for a site name…..

“Arsenal United” – that would confuse the hell out of some people.

We certainly don’t want to amass a group of people who all agree – that would be very boring, just folks who agree about the right way to blog = accepting those with differing opinions in reasoned debate.

  117. Rasputin says:

😳 – was kelsey pulling my plonker? …. damn, I’ve been duped 😆

  118. Rasputin says:

    Back to the footie …….

  119. Irishgunner says:

” We certainly don’t want to amass a group of people who all agree” – Maybe I should stay away so?

  120. peachesgooner says:

London this is a bit extravagant and what are you going to do with him……

  121. Rasputin says:

    I can’t agree with you Irish 😕

  122. peachesgooner says:

Irish you’re already far enough away 😆

  123. alfamilano says:

peaches, London, I think you mean the Hadley Hotel. It looks like a pub. Can’t vouch for the telly.

Theo to score tonight, don’t forget 😀

  124. Irishgunner says:

Well … its just….. I’m embarrassed to say this… but when I write something its so clever and correct everyone agrees with me.

Like when I say Bendtner will be an ace striker, ye don’t think so now but he will be and ye all will be like “Oh Irish she is right again”

Or like how I said Super Tom is excellent but some TWO people *ahem ahem* didn’t think so at the Birmingham game but who is scoring the goals now?? Super Tom.

    I can’t help it 2 cool 4 skool 8)

  125. peachesgooner says:

Irish – I love that about the spuds planning application, knowing the location of their stadium and the travel provision at the moment, I can’t really believe the council can approve it anyway……

  126. peachesgooner says:

Two people who mocked the suggestion that Super Tom was going to be scoring goals – urrmmmmmhhhhhhhh who can they be 😳

  127. peachesgooner says:

I bow to your greater knowledge – now go to bed 🙂 I’ll text you later if you’re good…….

  128. Irishgunner says:

I dunno who they were Peaches but they kept turning back at me when Super Tom missed SOME VERY HARD CHANCES and not an almost open goal…

Still wearing the TR7 proud. What a stunning goal he scored against Bolton, he would have loved to have played Stoke – he’s one tough customer is Rosicky.

  129. Irishgunner says:

Yeah it is past my bedtime – my super knowledge must be contagious 😀

😆 I won’t be up for the match but some updates would be nice 😀

I promise I won’t be on about how super I am anymore

  130. Irishgunner says:

    Oh yeah:

    1-3 Arsenal.

  131. peachesgooner says:

alfa – thats the one, the Hadley Hotel…….

  132. London says:

“London has kindly volunteered to be an administrator”

I don’t even know what an administrator is let alone volunteer for it.

  133. London says:

I feel confident that your comments can improve on me telling everyone where I used to do my paper round.

  134. London says:

Not that it matters if they don’t, after all it’s all just waffle.

  135. Rasputin says:

‘Administrator’ is just the category of access that allows you to put up posts and edit comments – it does not imply any other level of commitment on your part … sorry, I should have made that clear….

  136. Rasputin says:

We’d like you all to have that ability, and then we’d like to take a back seat. Like I said yesterday, we want to create a site in the spirit of Avenell Road ….
..,.. Ideally, we’d like AR to be reinstated and the air to be cleared 😦

  137. peachesgooner says:

Can I ask it everyone is still up for playing nicely please?

    London – kelsey was having a joke…….

kelsey – would you like to tell us a joke……

  138. Rasputin says:

Irish copied my match prediction…. 😉

No-one liked my ‘Arsenal United’ suggestion then?

‘Same Old Arsenal’ is coming up on the rails in the popularity stakes

  139. London says:

No probs, I assumed you meant it in a tongue in cheek kind of way which was the spirit I answered it in.

  140. Rasputin says:

I’m really gonna have to learn to calm down aren’t I London 😳

  141. peachesgooner says:

That must mean you’re as clever as her rasp … 😉

I think Arsenal United is just too confusing……

  142. Irishgunner says:

Hey hey stop having fun at my expense thinking I’m not here, I see all 😯

Rasp clearly took MY prediction* and made it his own.

peaches – everything is confusing me at the moment, I’m feeling like Arsene trying to pick a goalie … 🙄

  144. Irishgunner says:

Do what Arsene does Rasp – throw a ball at your problem and whoever flaps at it most gets the nod

  145. Rasputin says:

Does anyone think that sending LJ to Bolton (exponents of the fine art of kicking opponents) rather than say Wham, means that Arsene wants him to toughen up? I just hope he doesn’t forget how to play proper football whilst imprisoned in the northern wastelands.

  146. London says:

I understand, I think what has happened is that I have mellowed. When I first started blogging with you I had just been insulted off the site we mustn’t talk about and not having any other experience I thought that was the correct tone to communicate with other bloggers; but, I have, of course, since realised that there is another way.

The other thing that I think has changed, although, I understand if people disagree with this one, is that nobody from the Avenell Road nucleus tows the other site’s party line. This was abhorrent and really brought out the worst in me. Avenell Road had achieved it’s own identity before it stopped, which was the driving factor for my enthusiasm.

The other funny thing that struck me when reading your well meaning comment above about hoping Avenell Road rises again was that in the space of 24 hours I have gone from hoping it will to realising that it never will.

I have spoken since by email a couple of times with Ave and from what I can gather he is a very relieved man to say the least. The difficulty is that his name “Ave” and the name of the site are the same. If they weren’t and it was called the Big Red One for example I can’t imagine him minding if we carried on the name, this would enable him to dip in and dip out without appearing to be totally responsible.

In fact, that might be an idea, to ask him if we can have it, and putting a clear message saying there has been a change in management and that he is on gardening leave for six months. I can’t see him wanting to blog before next season at the earliest (subject to winning the CL of course)

    Just a few thoughts

  147. peachesgooner says:

I think it will be the strangest of decisions……..surely we want LJ to play football not kickballandplayer 😉

    Anyway I shouldn’t be here …….

and Irish – shall I not text you then……..

  148. Rasputin says:

Thanks for that London – very insightful. I’ll give it serious thought and would like to hear what others think. I’d also like to be patient and to hear from rico when she’s ready.

  149. Rasputin says:

Actually London, my first blogging experience was somewhat similar. I went on Goonerholic (he writes very good posts) and blurted out my rants in a far too strident manner and was quite righlty taken to task for my attitude. For a long time I felt aggirieved until I went back to the site a few months later and realised that I was the one who was out of order. It’s all part of the learning experience – its good to mellow …… BTW, I’m not saying the views you expressed were incorrect 😉

  150. alfamilano says:

London, great to hear how your career has progressed from paper boy to administrator over the years as you have mellowed .

You’ve inspired me to share tales of my time working at the home of football, yes, the old twin towers. Many was the time I would walk up the tunnel, revelling in the glorious sight of the emerald pitch and the huge stands emerging as the tunnel opened out, dodging the dog s*** on the greyhound track. Then my foreman would yell at me ‘get back to picking up that £%&*$ chip paper, the whole top tier needs cleaning yet’, while I dodged falling scaffold poles. Strange but true. Happy days – not 🙂

  151. Big Raddy says:

    Re London 2.06.

    This mirrors my thoughts.

As I understand it Avenell Road is a place, and whilst I fully understand that Avenell chose his blogname, he hasn’t copyrighted (or has he?)

I have always found Ave to be a gentle and considerate man, but have had no direct contact with him. Would it be possible for someone to approach him and ask if we can take over the running of the site? It seems such a waste of work from Ave & Rico to let it just die.

  152. Big Raddy says:

Alfa. Very kind of you to pick up my chip papers and empty whisky bottles.

    Thank you

  153. alfamilano says:

BR – that was you! That wasn’t the worst by a long chalk.

I think Irish’s post first thing has the team right, except Bendtner apparently won’t start, so who will? Theo?

  154. Big Raddy says:

I know Alfa, but what do you expect? The old Wembley had the worst toilets known to man. Thinking of which , I went to Upton Park in the late 70’s and not only did they not have washing facilities, but there weren’t any Ladie’s loos !! Neanderthals – still are.

I take Theo to get a start tonight. This was a perfect game for Ebway, but I haven’t heard if he is home yet.

  155. Big Raddy says:

    or this team….

    Sagna Gallas Vermaelen Clichy
    Cesc Denilson Ramsey
    Rosicky Eduardo Arshavin

A bit more security with Mozart playing, he is good cover for the inexperience of Ramsey.

  156. kelsey says:

IMO for what it’s worth when AR was set upwe seemed to be the filling of a sandwich between two particular sites, though that was not the intention.Ave, I believe wanted it to be a friendly site, and he wasn’t chasing hits. Therefore naturally he thought it wouldn’t be too time consuming.Eventually it became apparent that others should and wanted to take responsibility including rico as the one who loved the expansion of the site and with the introduction of AR appearing on NewsNow it generated far more hits and newer posters.

Here lies the problem as I see it.None of us have the time to man the site all day, and this has the reverse effect that sometimes when a new blogger goes into moderation, they don’t come back if the moderation takes too long.
Others just want this as a site to blog about our team Arsenal and anything else that might interest one or two. That’s what makes this site different,a sort of chill zone but with good banter and football debate without being told to f*** off as a newcomer,or given an opinion by the site master and then banned if one doesn’t agree.
Some are more knowledgeable than others, some are more articulate and some have a greater knowledge than others, but that’s what the site should be,providing one can remain polite.

There are more Arsenal sites than any other club, but quality and a welcoming attitude counts for more than numerous hits.

This is not a site that is trying to generate an income, just a mixture of folk with different views, but a bond to following the Arsenal.

  157. peachesgooner says:

Well done kelsey – I love the idea that we’re the filling in a sandwich…….

Your comments are spot on about how we all generally feel about the need to have a nice polite site to talk Arsenal and other things…….

  158. Rasputin says:

Denilson is the archetypal ‘marmite player’. His recent performances have been lamentable (apart from the goal) I’d take a risk (actually not too great a risk) and play Eastmond instead fo Denilson … but that won’t happen and I expect the team to be as Raddy has predicted.

  159. Rasputin says:

The only thing I would add to kelseys analysis is that there are enough of us to share the burden and make it work. I have no internet at home at the moment (bloody BT) so I won’t be able to blog, but I’m sure the rest of you will look after things admirably 😉

  160. Big Raddy says:

    I agree Ras.

  161. Big Raddy says:

Insomuch as no site can moderate 24 hrs a day, but we can cover most hours. Especially if we develop slowly.

As to bloggers waiting in moderation, there must be a way of allowing them on (though the anonymous route is fraught with danger). Or we make it clear that new bloggers are welcome but must show patience.

  162. peachesgooner says:

Lets worry about new bloggers when the time comes but you’re right Raddy – a line in the head-line post explaining that if they’re held its because they’ve come on at an unmanned time should be enough.

  163. London says:

I also like the filling in the sandwich idea; I see it as a positive, even a compliment. I am as uncomfortable with the extremes of the Lefties which I regard as a place where you get barked at for expressing a genuine concern as I am with the other one; where, in my opinion, you seem to get insulted for supporting Arsenal, I know they are some of your friends and I do not intend to labour this, in fact, the only reason I am bringing up is to create debate as to the potential ethos of a new would be site.

I always saw Avenell Road as a place were people could express concerns about any aspect of the team or management as well as compliment any aspect without fear of being bullied, that to me is what made it the healthy sandwich filling that it was.

  164. peachesgooner says:

I just lost my comment 😦

Who is the better super sub Theo or Sexy Tom?

Theo needs games and to improve his concentration and to be able to stamp a bit of authority on his own game. Does he do that by starting or coming off the bench?

  165. Rasputin says:

If not that peaches, we’d have their email address, we could send them a msg apologising for the delay and welcoming them to the site – maybe even alerting them to the rules in a friendly way.

  166. Rasputin says:

    2 hours 20 minutes to kick off …… I’m getting nervous 🙄

  167. alfamilano says:

More of a club than an open forum – which is what I liked about AR.

Kelsey wrote a lot of sense.

  168. Big Raddy says:

Fine idea Ras. re the email. We could have a standard letter so as not to spend time writing.

As regard to opinion, I have no problem with people expressing extreme and contrary views as long as they are not insulting and are couched in a non aggressive manner.

The fact that I view Nik as a super player does not make me right !

I like the idea of a club, though I have always stood by Groucho Marx epithet…. “I would never join any club that accepted me”

  169. London says:

He does write a lot of sense, in addition, I think he writes really good match summaries, he always spots things that no body else does and has a way of putting things in a down to earth, easy to understand way.

  170. Rasputin says:

I agree London, it’s a bit like party politics – its anti-democratic. To feel under pressure to conform/agree with any site’s standpoint because you know you will be dealt with aggressively if you offer a contrary standpoint is not comfortable. Equally, anyone who goes on a site with clearly defined rules and then deliberately breaks them is foolhardy.

  171. Rasputin says:

I quite liked “Club Class” as a name …. we could tell Geoff that we we’re all in Club Class now 😆

  172. peachesgooner says:

Yes London I would agree with all of your 5.17 – I think we already have the ethos of the site within our core group of bloggers that are trying to keep this going and those that are missing but watching.

Ave feels that as a group we didn’t give him enough support which is possibly true but its much easier to give help if you’re actually asked to do something.

  173. kelsey says:

    let’s call it …….club.

  174. Rasputin says:

OK folks, I’m off home and have no internet there so I’ll bid you good evening and look forward to celebrating a decisive victory (1:3) in the morning 😉

  175. peachesgooner says:

Hello ave – nice to see you 😉

  176. Rasputin says:

    Hi ave,

Bad timing for me as I’m just off home. Obviously no-ones going to tell you to piss off – why would we? You are the reason we all got together in the first place.

I can’t speak for anyone else. My feeling is that you have created the a community and I believe we’d all like you to continue to be a part of it in the future in any capacity you wish… so in effect, it would be you telling us to piss off if you choose not to 😆

  177. avenell says:

Sorry Rasp… Is there any hope you have email at home?

  178. London says:

It’s great to hear from you. I would imagine you feel as if a great weight has been lifted.

  179. avenell says:

Sorry I mean internet connection.. I can’t even put right my cock up’s.. lol

  180. London says:

Don’t worry I’ve got your back

  181. avenell says:

Hi London.. A bit of both.. I have had a very busy few days explaining and trying to do what is right for all.

So It hasn’t changed much.. just been more stressfull..

  182. London says:

What do you want to correct?

  183. London says:

    Have you heard from Rico?

  184. London says:

Well, I hope she is well, I don’t think there is a single person who hasn’t been f**ked off at one time or another with blogging but we all seem to get over it. I always remember your helpful words in a time of difficulty “Its only a blog” very true.

  185. London says:

I’m off to the game, ohh and by the way your doing the match report lol, hope to hear from you again on here you are missed.

  186. kelsey says:

vermaelen gone off injured, sol on. pretty open game but we lack penetration in attack. villa marginally on top.

  187. kelsey says:

clichy rather dodgy, none of the attacking midfielders really firing.

  188. kelsey says:

fantastic run by cesc beats 4 men and shoots and hits the post

  189. alfamilano says:

kelsey, who got in Cesc’s way, my stream is rubbish?

Ave, I’ve only known you for 5 minutes but whatever went on and whatever you do now, thanks for setting up Avenell Road and letting me meet all these nice people.

  190. kelsey says:

i would sub eduardo and ramsey and bring on nasri and bedtner.i have a feeling one goal will settle this.

  191. kelsey says:

no one got in cesc’s way, but when it came off the post ramsey and rosicky or it may have been eduardo and rosicky went to slot it home, and got in each other’s way.

  192. kelsey says:

satarted better in the second half, but eddie is still off the pace.

  193. kelsey says:

no probs ave, just trying to give a bit of a commentary.sol is playing great, very open game,we look slightly better but eddie keeps laying off the ball in the area instead of shooting.

  194. alfamilano says:

Cheers kelsey – that’s how bad the stream is, Dudu, TR and Cesc look the same. Irish and peaches will be horrified 🙄

Ave, not moaning at all from where I am sitting, just sounds like you need to get a bit of distance then it will be clear what you want to do next.

  195. kelsey says:

almunia has missed 3 corners up to now, lucky no danger. time for a couple of subs.

  196. alfamilano says:

Tell you what ave, you need something less stressful. Easy, runs itself, no moaning from anyone.

Why not set up a streaming site? 😆 😆

  197. kelsey says:

eduardo injured and rosicky hit the bar when he should have scored.

  198. Big Raddy says:

Ave. If you are still around … thanks.

  199. kelsey says:

    eduardo off, nicci on.

  200. avenell says:

Cheers Raddy…. you have said some nice things about me and the site.. I appreciate that a lot..

  201. avenell says:

Alfa….. Kelsey is far better in his descriptions than my stream is..

  202. Rasputin says:

Can anyone tell me what the injury to TV is?

  203. kelsey says:

not sure about vermaelen, he walked off okay, maybe a twinge.

lucky villa can’t finish, same as us,but we have more skill, but still trying to walk the ball in. nic looks well off the pace. i would say eduardo will be out for a few weeks.
still think one goal would settle the game.

  204. kelsey says:

    young is murdering clichy.

  205. kelsey says:

nasri on for rosicky, weird sub IMO

  206. kelsey says:

we have to buy a striker, please.

  207. kelsey says:

    clichy booked

  208. alfamilano says:

    kelsey, this is a lifesaver.

United 3-2 on aggregate, Lazyboyor has just come on. Come on ade, equalize!

  209. alfamilano says:

3-3 Tevez, extra time and penalties please!

  210. kelsey says:

sol greast tackle one on one with dunne, but we are still pressing 2 minutes left

  211. kelsey says:

sol greast tackle one on one with dunne, but we are still pressing 2 minutes left

    no finished.

  212. alfamilano says:

0-0 not a disaster away to Villa. We were on top though? Kelsey, who was good?

  213. alfamilano says:

Got to go, I’ll check in tomorrow. Thanks kelsey 😀

  214. Big Raddy says:

Another overtime victory for MU. How lucky can a team be?

  215. peachesgooner says:

London – I’ve put a small post up until your match report is done – you can publish as soon as you’re ready

  216. peachesgooner says:

    New post……..
