We didn’t sign a striker even though Arsene told us that he was shopping for one. I wouldn’t want to be married to him “Just off out to buy your Valentines present darling, the diamond bracelet we discussed” how disappointing would that be on the day? – a big nothing.  We’re going to have to make do with what we’ve got, the ‘surprise purchase’ was Sol Campbell – and even that was a disappointment, on Sunday as he was knowhere to be seen.

Still, I’ve put Sunday behind me. Arsene has the whole of this week to work on some tactics to make sure those schoolboy errors don’t happen again next week at Stamford Bridge. Kidnapping Almunia and Denilson is definitely a good start I reckon.

On to the new blog. We are thinking of referring to the founder members – that’s all of us – as ‘The Board” in keeping with the Arsenal theme. The Board will all have access to  the admin and shared responsibilities over keeping an eye on the blog and looking out for each other. New bloggers can be invited onto ‘The Board’ if we think they are of the right calibre. I may carry on being the bossy one just cos I’m very good at it and to make sure we know who’s writing a post when.

We hope to find a way to leave each other messages or discuss matters out of the public eye rather than on the blog – a virtul Board Room,  possibly on one of the other sites that are in your dashboard.

We’ve set the test site up as ‘Arsenal Arsenal’ but will take a vote on the name in a couple of days.  You are all in admin now – you need to be logged in through wordpress and if you have a look at the top of the blog there should be a grey line that has several headings. If you hover your cursor over My Dashboards you will have access to Peaches Pad, Arsenal Shorts and Arsenal Arsenal. Go onto either of the new ones and click on ‘visit site’ – you can go backwards and forwards between all the different sites in this way. If you want to leave any comments put them on Arsenal Shorts for now.

Rasp and I will be around to help out and London and rico know their way around the Dashboard too.

Any good Arsenal news would be more than welcome………………………………

    Morning all

What a load of rubbish spouted on talksport last night about whether or not John Terry should have the England armband……………..

Like the FA have nothing else to worry about……

    Big Raddy Says:
    February 2, 2010 at 8:57 am edit

Wenger said in the summer break two seasons ago that we were fine centrally but susceptible to balls over the top between the CB’s and the MF (sound fanmiliar?). That infers the need for a linking DM.

He sold a CB and signed a better one, but hasn’t addressed the DM problem. Song is a fine player and has developed rapidly, he has been a shining light this season, but AW was referring to the space
behind where Song plays i.e. when Song goes forward, who “sits”? This must be Denilson’s role, and at only 21, he is clearly not ready . This position requires intelligence and experience.

I cannot believe there aren’t the players available.

I am sure AW tried to sign players, who for a variety of reasons wouldn’t leave their clubs mid-season. If we are frustrated today imagine how AW feels.

  3. Rasputin says:

    Morning all,

Hi Raddy, I don’t think Arsene would have tried or even had the desire to bring in a DM.

He could have brought back Flamini. Imagine if we’d had Palacios breaking up the manu attacks on sunday instead of Denilson bouncing off their players like a ping pong ball. We could have kept Palacios for nothing when he was on trial. Denilson was probably only ever meant to be Cesc’s undrstudy and it now appears that Ramsey is going to fill that role more effectively. Denilson should only be a second string squad player.

  4. Rasputin says:

The whole JT ‘affair’ has the wrong focus. It is not Bridge who is the victim of all this, it’s JT’s wife and children.

  5. peachesgooner says:

Morning Raddy – I agree that obviously Denilson isn’t ready to play that role but usually Song would play in that position – sitting back, protecting the back four.

What we don’t know is whether in the 2nd half when Song went rampaging forward he deserted his post or wanted to make the difference for the team.

Denilson was largely innefective(spelling)in either role as attacking or defending midfielder.

  6. Rasputin says:

I didn’t want to upset anyone today with a ‘cutting headline suggestion’, but “Buy, Buy Arsene, or it could be Bye, Bye Cesc” sprang to mind 😦

I read our captain has said all the right things again about manu and the the chav game, but each time he is put in this position it must chip away at his heart and the lure of Spain becomes that little bit more enticing.

  7. peachesgooner says:

This may be wishful thinking but the word on the street in the Winch is that Cesc is buying a house round the corner to me. Of course he doesn’t know its round the corner to me 😉

  8. irishgunner says:

Rasp – I agree with you regarding Cesc and I think AW knows it.

Fabregas is giving his all to Arsenal, I don’t doubt his commitment at all but he isn’t a hometown Arsenal player like say Gerrard at Liverpool. He will want to start wining trophies soon and although he is only 22 football careers can be cut short and he knows that.

If we don’t start putting up a proper challenge soon we could be in danger of losing him especially as Barca will look for a replacement for Xavi and we know who they want.

As for Wenger – he’ll not want to leave on a negative. He’ll honour his contract at least.

  9. irishgunner says:

Peaches – when can I come visit? 😉

  10. Rasputin says:

    Morning Irish

The atmosphere on the blogs is worse than yesterday. We all knew we weren’t going to reinforce the squad but the confirmation is still hugely disappointing.

Of course, I don’t want us to lose a single game from now to the end of the season, but I get the feeling that our manager needs some kind of ‘shock episode’ to get him focused back on results now, this season and less on the ‘mission’ for the future.

  11. peachesgooner says:

Irish – you’re in now so come and have a look 😉

  12. irishgunner says:

Rasp – Wenger didn’t help by mentioning the name “David Villa” like anyone believes he tried to sign him…

    Peaches – que?

  13. London says:

I believe he tried to sign him….why not, I wrote headline post after head line post saying the reason for announcing that he is in the market for a new striker was to try and attract that very player. Even with all of City’s money they cannot buy David Villa he has to want to come to you and that was exactly what Wenger tried to do and also what he meant by saying that he would not buy anyone who was not an improvement (attack wise) on what we already have.

  14. peachesgooner says:

I haven’t had a look around yet rasp but I’m sure there are a lot of angry bloggers about. I’m angry too as its not as if RVP only just got injured and he did say he was going to be looking to buy striker – same old same old.

  15. London says:

Irish at the risk of being perdantic you have to put an accent on that “qué” to turn it into “what”

  16. peachesgooner says:

Irish – The Winch – silly me 😉

  17. peachesgooner says:

Morning London – how do you put an accent on?

  18. peachesgooner says:

So its even sadder that no-one wanted to come 😦 😦 😦

Clichys claim that the ‘aura’ was back would seem to have been premature then.

  19. Rasputin says:

We are in danger of going over old ground here. Arsene’s PR has been flawed ever since we moved to the Emirates. We’ve had the same spin every transfer window …. it’s insulting to our intelligence. How a man who takes a moral stance on shaking another manager’s hand because he’s been verbally abused can also spout such nonsense to the fans is a mystery to me.

  20. London says:

    Morning all

It is fairly obvious that I like analogies; I use them all the time; so, I just wanted to say how much I liked the diamond bracelet number above…top draw.

In an attempt be helpful I just wanted to clarify how I saw myself in the new world order. It is, in fact, what I have always wanted and I feel I have always been and that is a blogger who occasionally writes a headline post. With that in mind I will not expect to be a board member with voting rights etc neither will I refer to this venture of our site; to me, it is your site and I wish you every success with it.

  21. Rasputin says:

Arsene is not stupid. He knows that Villa would have been comfortably in excess of £25m and the price would have rocketed when the big spenders came in. He also knows we won’t spend that kind of money on a player.

  22. London says:

    Morning Peaches

    alt 130 = é

  23. irishgunner says:

You were being pedantic London, I don’t know the shortcuts on the keyboard for it and can’t be arsed to go look.

Thanks for the language lesson though.

  24. irishgunner says:

Rasp – Like Bendtner was our new striker and like a new signing when he stated at the end of December that he would be in the market for a new striker?

  25. Rasputin says:

    Morning London,

Thanks for the clarification re your intentions. I hope that means that you are happy to continue to blog with us all in your own inimitable style 😛

  26. Rasputin says:

I agree Irish – so many silly statements over recent years 😕 “I’m going to the WC and I’m taking my chequebook”

We have to get the anger out of our systems before we can take a deep breath and get behind the team and the manager at the weekend.

  27. irishgunner says:

What annoys me most about the whole situation is that you could give Wenger £40mil and he’d buy you three world class players out of it who could slot straight into the team.

Even lately he has done it with Vermaelen and Arshavin – what did they cost? £27mil…

The squad doesn’t need massive surgery, just tweaks but not kids or potential but players that are ready.

  28. Rasputin says:

His last 3 purchases of £10m+ players have all been good (although Nasri has yet to fulfill his potential in my eyes). He has become very cautious about buying and I’m sure that is due to a combination of factors – financial prudence; the emergence of big spenders in the market; past failures and his unwavering belief that one day his mission will succeed. It is the last of the list that concerns me.

  29. London says:

I don’t agree that everyone knows Wenger won’t spend that kind of money. He used to. Why has it changed, because we can not longer compete in an auction: a player of the highest calibre now has got to want to come and play at Arsenal. Cesc is a great example of what I am trying to say; he doesn’t stay for the financial rewards he has staid because he knows that it has and will enhance him as a footballer.

  30. irishgunner says:

Nasri has been up and down Rasp but I like him. He is still quite young (aren’t they all) but is a good player – tough in the tackle and can strike a ball. He’ll get there.

  31. Rasputin says:

    I’m sure he will Irish.

London, do you really think Arsene would spend £30m on a player?

  32. London says:

I am just waiting for my Spanish teacher to arrive.

  33. peachesgooner says:

I agree with London – I don’t think Arsene would get the chance to spend £30m on a player because if he was that good then other clubs would want him too and that would push the price up.

Someone said on talksport last night that it was interesting how Citeh had systematically bought players from the other top sides in an attempt to build a good team for themslves and weaken their opponents.

  34. London says:

I thought that was my teacher at the door but to my surprise it was a case of wine from HSBC to say sorry for something they messed up, how often does that happen? The wine not a bank messing up.

  35. peachesgooner says:

How often does it come down to whether the player wants to go to a particular team – we should have signed Wright-Phillips but the chavs offered more money and even Wrighty told him to go there.

Yesterday I read that Smalling wanted to come to us but that his agent told him that Manu would be financially a better move.

Arsene is on a hilding to nothing at the moment.

  36. Rasputin says:

peaches, he dosen’t have to spend £30m necessarily. He may have been able to buy Dzeko, Chamakh, Huntelaar and quite a few others for less than £30m if he’d wanted to – we’ve been told he has the money if he wants it.

  37. irishgunner says:

Did City really weaken us though? Arguably Toure and Adebayor were weakening us by being at the club.

Toure is past his best and didn’t get on with Gallas. Since he has left we have signed a better player and Gallas has become a real force for us.

No need to go into Adebayor again but what we lost from him was a plan b.

  38. peachesgooner says:

That sounds like its cheered you up a bit London. It must have been a gigantic muck up – hope they chose a good selection……

  39. irishgunner says:

The problem we have now is the World Cup.

Any player that is playing there and may be moving will have their agents holding off to find a new club till the tournament is over in the hopes their client will have a great tournament and push up their price.

  40. irishgunner says:

I once got €40 back from my bank because they charged me fees when I was a student and they shouldn’t have.

Sadly for them they still think I’m a student and I still don’t get charged fees, sweeeeeeeeeet 8)

  41. peachesgooner says:

Funnily enough they didn’t mention us – they only talked about Tevez, Bridge and Gareth Barry – obviously we’re right out of the loop as far as Citeh are concerned – just playing devils advocate there

rasp – you mentioned £30m not me 😉

  42. irishgunner says:

City aren’t going to challenge United yet.

Its Villa they weakened but oddly they strengthened them then by selling them Richard Dunne….

Did ye all see your favourite Irish player moved again?

  43. Rasputin says:

This is disturbing, I hope JET’s not going the same way as Pennant 😦 – how can he afford a £100k car any way, surely he’s not on big wages yet?

Arsenal’s Under 18 League and Cup ‘double’ winning captain Jay Emmanuel-Thomas was arrested by police in the early hours of the morning. The versatile prospect failed to stop when signaled in his high performance £100,000 Mercedes McLaren in East London.

Emmanuel-Thomas had the back window of his car smashed as officers attempted to gain entry. He was reportedly found alone inside and with only a provisional driving licence. Jay has been released but will report to Redbridge magistrates court on February 12. It is expected he will be found guilty of driving without a licence and failure to stop – both could result in a prison sentence.

Jay only recently signed an extension to his contract and impressed on his first-team debut in the FA Cup against Stoke City recently. This came after he scored a terrific hat-trick for the Reserves a week previously. Any in-house punishment will be dealt with by the club in due course.

  44. irishgunner says:

As I said on Young Guns:

“What is a kid doing with a £100k car?”

  45. Rasputin says:

And how can he have been so stupid not to expect to be pulled driving around in one? …. but then to have no licence …. will his career survive if he goes inside? Silly boy – that is certainly not what Arsene wants to be dealing with at the moment.

  46. irishgunner says:

He had a provisional licence, will he get jail in the UK for not having a full licence while driving without someone who has a full drivers licence?

I doubt he will, community service or something.

Its a bit odd they had to break the window.

  47. peachesgooner says:

Sometimes the magistrates like to make an example of these silly young men – wheres the parental control – I thought the youngsters were told to buy sensible for their first cars.

Arsene will not be happy about this………..

  48. Rasputin says:

He was found alone, so I’m assuming there was no qualified driver – therefore he was driving illegally. We have to hope the judge is lenient – sometimes they want to make an example of rich young footballers who should be role models … queue the JT debate again 🙄

  49. Rasputin says:

    Snap peaches 😛

I think they smashed the window because he was hiding inside.

  50. peachesgooner says:

    😛 rasp

    What a plank – can I say that 😕

    Not role models – heroes

  51. irishgunner says:

    😆 Seems a bit ridiculous.

The cops came after him, pulled him over and then he tried to hide in the car …. cos like they’d never find him ha ha

  52. peachesgooner says:

Just read that JT GOT Perroncel pregnant – I’m not sure that if you’re in relationship with someone either party can be blamed for a pregnancy anymore ……..

  53. Rasputin says:

I bet the poor lad hasn’t slept since, he must be devastated. There’s a lesson to us all – don’t believe your own hype.

  54. peachesgooner says:

😆 😀 😛 thats hilarious Irish, maybe he was trying to think of who he could be when questioned………

  55. Rasputin says:

My last comment was about JET not JT

  56. Rasputin says:

“Evening officers, you’re never going to believe this, but I was just valeting this car for a friend when it accidently slipped into gear and sped off down the road”

  57. peachesgooner says:

    😆 😆 😆

  58. Rasputin says:

John Terry to wife….. “Evening darling, you’re never going to believe this, I was just opening the door for Perroncel when she fell over and I landed on top of her and somehow, now she’s pregnant”

  59. irishgunner says:

😆 maybe he thought it was Arsene pulling him over “If he didn’t see it, its not illegal”

  60. irishgunner says:

Wait! What if there’s an explanation for this sh1t?
What? She tripped? Fell? Landed on his ****?

  61. Rasputin says:

Arsene to an Arsenal fan ….. “Bonsoir mon ami, you are neverrr goinnng too belieeve thisss, but I thought I’d signed David Villa, but I forgot to sign ze cheque”

  62. irishgunner says:

I think Arsene has gone and lost the chequebook.

Probably still getting cold sweats from signing his name to £17mil for Arshavin.

  63. Rasputin says:

SAF to his cardiologist…. “Och, yon’ll ne’er believe thus, it’s no red because o all the wine ye drinks, I sneeezed n fell forward into yon toaster”

  64. peachesgooner says:

You two ought to form a double act 🙂

  65. Rasputin says:

It’s called hysteria peaches, brought on by fffffootballl fffrustration … aaaarrrgghhh!!!!

  66. irishgunner says:

You’ll need to go and translate that last one for me Rasp, I don’t talk w@nker (SAF not you 😆 )

  67. Rasputin says:

‘arry to the tax authorities….. “You’re never gonna believe this, but ‘er indoors told me she’d paid all them tax bills, oh and the dog ate them before I could read them, and the cheque must have got lost in the post, and err errrr errr twitch twitch twitch”

  68. Rasputin says:

His nose is red because he fell into the toaster 😆

  69. irishgunner says:

    😆 Thanks for that Rasp.

Wenger to his missus: “I both ze something for ze birthday 5 years ago, ze is so greedy”

  70. Rasputin says:

Pat Rice to Arsene….. “You’re never gonna believe this boss, but some fans think I’m the assistant manager”

  71. irishgunner says:

Phil Brown: “Duh, I’m a football manager ahuh huh huh”

  72. irishgunner says:

Arsene to Pat Rice: “You’re never gonna believe this Pat, but some fans think you are my assistant manager”

  73. Rasputin says:

Colin Lewin to Arsene …. “You’re never going to believe this Mr. Wenger but we need to treble the size of the treatment room”

  74. Rasputin says:

Thierry to Irish … “Ma Cheri, you are neverr going to believe zisss, I saw a leetle bit of mud on ze ball and I was just cleaning eet so ze kipper did nurt get ze durty hands”

  75. peachesgooner says:

Why is there loads of stuff about Remy on NN today?

  76. peachesgooner says:

  77. irishgunner says:

Maradona to Henry “My handball is still the best 8) ”

Peaches – Dunno, maybe people can’t tell the time. Le window is le shut, or Arsenal fans are in denial.

  78. London says:

My apologies for taking so long in answering the question as to whether I believe that Wenger would spend thirty million…..My answer is that I think he would spend forty million if he felt he could get the player that he wanted.

I don’t buy into this continuous anti-Arsenal drone from LG; people of that persuasion fail to recognise that it a player was available, and money was the only criteria, then Arsenal would be out bid, and out bid every time.

They seem to think that buying players is as easy as going into a shop and buying apples and you have the right to do so just because you have money into your pocket, the economics are so childish it makes me want to scream and even worse generates a negative cloud over the club that I love.

If Valencia set a price for David Villa of forty million and the player said he wanted to play for Arsenal then I am convinced that Wenger would get the board to spend that amount without hesitation.

  79. irishgunner says:

Peaches – he’s only being so smart cos I’m all the ways across the world 😆

Ah who’ll be doing the laughing when England get knocked out by Germany on penalties??? MUHAHAHAHAHA

  80. irishgunner says:

London – Buying apples isn’t easy, there are always a load of bad apples in the box in the shop and they spray them with crap to make them look all nice… you have to be careful in choosing your apples.

  81. peachesgooner says:

You’re right there Irish – about the smartass and the apples and the penalties 🙂

    Sorry rasp xx

  82. Rasputin says:

    Hi London,

Thanks for the considered reply. I’m not anti-Arsene, but I will agree to differ with you on the subject of his willingness to spend £40m on one player – I think he’d rather buy 3 for £13m each and turn them into £40m players. He has actually said something to that effect in the past.

  83. irishgunner says:

I’m off to the ITYS bit again 😆

  84. peachesgooner says:

I approve of Arsene only buying to make the squad better but the reverse of that is that by not buying the weaknesses in the squad haven’t been fixed.

The ethos of this Wengerball team is to score more goals than the opposition therefore we need to be able to do that – while we don’t need a striker because we’re getting goals from lots of players we do need a bigger presence than ‘Lofty’ up front.

  85. peachesgooner says:

……and we need all of our mid-field to play to our strengths – don’t play Denilson he adds nothing to our attack or defence……..

  86. irishgunner says:

Wengerball has worked this season against most of the lower sides. Bolton at home was a case in point: you score 2, meh whatever we’ll score 4.

Its different playing the likes of Utd and Chelsea because they are too solid for that and have better players. This is where we need a plan B, one that plays to our strengths but also nullifies the threats of the opposition.

  87. peachesgooner says:

United were very solid on Sunday except when Cesc found the ball over the top to Arsh and he made a muppet out of Wes Brown – if they’d practised that then why wasn’t anyone else rushing into the penalty area to tap in Arshavins cross – United were wide open when that happened aaaaarrrrrggggghhhhhhh

For all the world it looked like a secret ……..

  88. Rasputin says:

Spot on peaches and Irish, Raddy and I made the same point about Denilson before the game started on sunday – not being smart after the event.

If we were super consistent (which we’re not) it might be posssible to win the prem by beating the 14/15 lesser teams and losing/drawing with the top opposition, but that is no strategy to base a team upon.

  89. Rasputin says:

Maybe Dudu would have been there for a tap-in if he’d been fit peaches 😉

  90. irishgunner says:

The Man Utd backline was one of the worst they had out in a long time.

Rafael, Brown, Evans and Evra – the only one who’d start is Evra and we got nothing from them, nothing!!!

Okay Arshavin got in on occasion but decided he wanted to be the hero and didn’t pass or tee anyone else up.

  91. irishgunner says:

    I think I’m going to start a campaign to get Rosicky in Denilson’s position – I must e-mail AW….

Seriously, I honestly believe if he hadn’t injury/fitness doubts he’d be perfect for the role.

  92. London says:

    I agree with that Irish.

I also agree with your apple example, it is in my opinion the kind of answer I would expect Arsene Wenger himself to give.

  93. irishgunner says:

    Thanks London 😳

  94. London says:

The Denilson thing is where my whole argument falls on it’s face.

It is going to be interesting to see if he plays him against the Chavs. Denilson, was responsible for the mancs first and second goal, was guilty at Stoke as he was against Bolton for giving a penalty away.

  95. Big Raddy says:

I believe AW would pay the money for Villa. Not only does he get a superb player, but he almost guarantees Cesc staying at THOF.

He is worth €15m on top of Adebayor’s sale. And Villa is just the type of player who would work well with RvP.

  96. Big Raddy says:

For the Chavs. I would give Denilson’s shirt to Eboue, should Diaby not be fit

  97. peachesgooner says:

I’m sure Denilson wasn’t playing this badly before he got shot during the game against Everton – actually he was dreadful against Everton except that he scored in the first half – before Everton? Anyone remember or was he just back from unjury against Everton.

    Out for a bit……………

  98. London says:

Denilson as I see it is not the answer, lets see if that brings you know who back to bang on the ITYS button.

  99. irishgunner says:

It’ll be interesting to see what happens, that sounds like something people should put their name to like the scores.

I reckon Wenger will play Denilson barring an injury.

  100. London says:

Yes, I do and that was the reason for my continuous support against a sea of doubters: He was playing well, he was doing his job of shielding the defense but OMG he has been so poor since. What was in that snippers bullet?

  101. Rasputin says:

Raddy, we don’t often disagree but I can’t see Arsene paying £40m for Villa in a million years. He is conservative by nature.

  102. Rasputin says:

    A 5 year contract London 😆

  103. Big Raddy says:

I don’t know London. But he sure isn’t dancing to the samba beat at present.

However, he is still very young and I am sure will become a decent player. Perhaps this is the lesson he needs – that he must focus for 100% of the game.

  104. Rasputin says:

I’m off for a couple of hours … don’t talk about me 😉

  105. Big Raddy says:

ANother reason for a big spend is that AW needs to make Arsenal into a Big Club again. Nothing does that better than a Big Signing. IMO €40m is cheap for Villa, and I am sure he would cost more.

  106. Big Raddy says:

I’m out too. See y’all in the ether……

  107. London says:

I think the reason why people have the opposite view Rasp is because Wenger has a history of spending the money on a player that he believes will enrich the squad rather than the opposite as I think you are suggesting.

What has changed? Chelsea first, followed by Man City, without those two we would be back to a situation of just us and the mancs vying for the best talent on offer and Wenger was not afraid to spend then.

He has had to find a new way to survive and I reckon if it wasn’t for him another manager would be buying the same shite as spuds do.

  108. Rasputin says:

I have formulated my opinion based on the evidence of the last 5 years. We paid big money in ‘world terms’ for the likes of TH and Wiltord, but then DD negotiated the signings and Arsene could view them as his risk as much as his own.

Since we began building the Emirates and DD left, Arsene has shouldered the burden of financial prudence and total responsibility for buying players, and as I said before, he is conservative by nature.

Obviously the big spenders have changed the equilibrium, but I still don’t think Arsene would shell out £40m even if they were not interested in the player.

  109. Rasputin says:

On my last point, we were not in a bidding war for AA yet risked losing him by holding on to the last minute for the best possible deal and that was not even half of £40m.

  110. peachesgooner says:

Thats a very good point rasp about DD taking some of the risk with respect to spending money and buying names.

  111. Rasputin says:

Just to continue my ‘thesis’ I would also think that if Arsenal was bought by a zillionnaire who instructed Arsene to buy ‘a Kaka’ for £100m that Arsene would resign on the spot as he does not believe that is the way to run a football club.

  112. peachesgooner says:

The plot thickens then……..if Kroenke makes a bid to take over in the summer I don’t reckon he’s up for spending money so they’ll not be any change there……

If the supporters want someone who has lots of money to spend then it has to be Usmanov and I haven’t found a single one of those around………..

Wish my mum would ask some serious questions of Barbara Dein, but she won’t so we’ll have to keep guessing……

  113. peachesgooner says:

Bit of a wrangle going on for Montenegrin defender Stefan Savic. Hes chosen us after offers from Spuds and B’ham – hes had 10 days on trial at London Colney but Arsene is now balking at the price……….

  114. Rasputin says:

I think Usamov is out of the race. It looks like Kroenke has brokered some kind of deal with the Board behind the scenes (hence delayed payment for shares) and hopefully that deal protects the club from getting into a manu/pool type situation … or am I being naive? 😕

  115. Rasputin says:

Nice quote from Savic re Arsene…

….. ‘Wenger was extremely mad during the training session on Monday. This defeat means the league title will be extremely hard to reach right now.’

The player added: ‘Wenger is the man. He has incredible authority at the club – everyone listens to him, assistants lead training sessions and he just supervises. Nothing can escape him.’

  116. London says:

I think it is important to make it clear that I am not saying you are wrong neither am I trying to change your mind. I am, in fact, just answering the question you posed above.

Unsurprisingly probably, I do not agree with your view of David Dein’s involvement, the big money signings had dried up long before he was told to clear his desk. I seem to remember that his description of the arrival of Abramovich was that of likening it to having a Russian tank drive up on your front garden and start firing fifty pound notes.

  117. Rasputin says:

No worries London, we don’t agree on the question ‘would Arsene spend £40m on one player?’ – Raddy agrees with you, its just opinion.

For the record, I wouldn’t want him to spend £40m on one player – 2 at £20m should do the trick 😉

  118. London says:

I can’t believe it, we don’t even agree on that 😉 I want Wenger to break the bank to bring in a top drawer striker.

I was trying to answer your Arshavin question but I wrote so much that I might as well use it as headline post on a slow news day.

  119. Rasputin says:

Haha London … ‘vive la différence’ – please note the correct use of an accent 😛

  120. peachesgooner says:

Sorry alfa – I only just noticed your post on the other site – thankyou for your offer, please go ahead and have a play on a new page 🙂

  121. Big Raddy says:

We have to start with a striker at Chelsea. Either Theo or Nik to play alongside AA.

What disappointed me so much on Sunday was the set up of the team. To play with just AA up top and Cesc in the Gerrard/Tevez role was asking too much of the player who drives our team. It shows a fearful mentality. We should have gone out with the certainty we were the better side. Playing a midget up top with no support was tantamount to surrender in my eyes.

As you can tell I am still angry.

  122. London says:

I hope I didn’t piss Irish off too much this morning I was waiting for my Spanish teacher and I just couldn’t stop myself. I got my come uppence when I spent following hour having my own mistakes (of which there were many) corrected.

  123. London says:

I was amazed at how much the manc defence suited Walcott in the first half. They were so slow and there was so much space he would have had a field day.

It is pointless bringing on Walcott when the play in condensed, he just doesn’t have the close control to operate in the tight spaces.

  124. peachesgooner says:

London – my young footie friend that came to the game with me said exactly the same as you about Walcott having the space but then coming on when the play is condensed.

I know you all laugh but he really would have a much better view of the play if he sat up where I sit – I bet we deconstruct the game better than he does.

  125. Rasputin says:

You’re alright London – Irish took it out on me 🙄

It’s sad that after 3 years (?) at the club, Theo still has poor close control. Vela is not that much slower, has a much better touch and many more ways of getting past a player than Theo and they’re the same age.

  126. peachesgooner says:

London – don’t worry Irish can take care of herself 😉

  127. Rasputin says:

Don’t look now…. Hull are beating the chavs ….

  128. peachesgooner says:

I hope you haven’t just hexed that 😆

  129. peachesgooner says:

If you get a chance rasp can you check all your emails……

  130. peachesgooner says:

London – you mentioned you had a thought for a post – do you want to do Thursdays?

  131. peachesgooner says:

    1-1 I’m not looking again 😦

  132. London says:

    What’s 1-1 Peaches

I will let you know tomorrow if I can knock something into shape

  133. Rasputin says:

Hull v Chavski … half time

  134. peachesgooner says:

    Thanks London

rasp – are you looking 😕

  135. Rasputin says:

1 all – result 🙂 If Hull can draw with them, we can win….

peaches I’m emailing you another banner for assessment

  136. peachesgooner says:

Ok, where have you gone now…..

  137. irishgunner says:

Oooooooooooh we have to beat the Chavs and it’ll be 3 points gap.

    Well done Hull 😆
